Lost Washer?

Hello,
Today I was riding along and for whatever reason (I don't think I tightened the bolt enough after I cleaned it), one of the cogs on the dérailleur managed to break itself loose. The cog itself, and the bolt, managed to stay on, nothing at all has been damaged, just one component lost, which may have been a washer i'm not sure, here's a picture of the part I mean.

Has anyone any idea if this is a necessary component, and where I could get a replacement if it is?
I have got it working at the moment without the part, but i'm not sure if its safe or not. If the image is unclear, I mean the silver bit that it is directly pointing to.
Thanks,
Matt

pop into your LBS they should have an old mech you can rob one off.
it keeps the worst of the crap out of the bearing."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Go and ask Evans in the Snodome - I have had quite a few free washers, bolts etc from them.My Website - Trail Centre info for the UK: MTB Trail Time0

When you get home, look under your fridge. It will be there. Trust me. Fridge suck is more powerful than gravity you know...'11 Cannondale Synapse 105CD - FCN 4

It's also might not be a washer. It maybe shaped to cover the bearing seal.
A good time to just replace the pulley, they are cheap enough and come with all the bits, that way you'll have some spare bits thenCraig Rogers0
