From Monday a pair of Lidl cycling shoes will cost you £9.99, can't be bad...

Anyone have any idea whether these would be any good ?
That's my 2 cents,

Got a pair of these when they were 18squid but not usedthem yet as I haven't got any cleats with bolts :( Looks like I'm going to have to buy cleats that cost half as much as the shoes.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

    No cycling shoes on there.

Only cycling related thing is a useless gel seat cover

  • The link I provided will only show the cycling shoes if your local Lidl is going to stock them! Well.... I think. :?

I bought a pair for the MTB a couple of years back.

    Found 'em very comfy.
A couple of the loops where the laces go through have broken, meaning they don't fasten across the foot evenly. I still use them from time to time though when my Spesh shoes are to wet to use - which means probably once a week in the winter.

Re: redvee's comment about not getting cleats. You don't - as these should come with your pedals.

Remember these are for mtb fitment only (ie 2 bolt cleats).

I may buy myself another pair.

I've done over 5000 miles on my bike in these shoes that I bought from Lidl in February. The only issue I have had is with the loops as detailed by FSR_XC. In my case, the metal loop deformed, but I pressed it together again and have been careful since, so it's been okay. I've also walked a good few miles in these shoes and they're just about been okay.

Obviously these shoes aren't for racers or wanabee racers, but if you're actually interested in just riding a bike, they are fine.

I will buy as many of these as I can carry at £9.99.

I had these from Lidl, lasted just over 1 year, not that impressed.

Might get another pair if the local Lidl, for once, they aren't solely flogging womens stuff!

I've been using mine on my commute and off road. They are heavy (I suspect the sole has been over beefed up as a result of what happened to dsmiffs shoes) but otherwise seem pretty good. The only ageing after about 700 miles is mud and slightly chewed soles due to the pedal pins. Well worth the money at the old price let alone half.

if you can get any for £9.99 & they've got your size, I'd say go for it.

I've got two pairs of these and they seem to be a close copy of Specilaized Tahoe MTB shoes (which I've also got).

I have used the first pair for commuting about a year now & they've been pretty good.

As mentioned by others , some of the fixings are slightly weak.
The loop for the velcro straps has spread on mine a few times causing the velcro strap
to pull out of the loop , but this was quickly fixed with pliers.

Make sure you try them on before buying as I've found both Lidl & ALDI sizing to be very variable.

Overall I would say they're about 80% as good as Specialized for about 30% of the price

The only problems with mine I've forund are the laces wearing thin where I pull them through the eyelets at the opening and the velcro strap wearing thin on the loop but the contact area is still good.

Got some a couple of years ago for about £12 (exc. cleats) - still going fine and the laces only disintegrated earlier this year. Sole not as stiff as they might be but perfectly fine for commuting in and not too bad for longer rides either. For the price - go for it, especially if you have some spare cleats.
  • my wife says local Lidl (Bordon) stocks the £9.99 cycle shoes. I may stop by after work and have a look.

Had to start using the black ones bought earlier this year as my £5 Lake shoes died on friday, the rivet holding the sole onto the heal as pulled through :( Can't complain with them TBH £5 for 8+years service.

But not as good or as cheap as these, providing they're your size of course:

  • all in all though, what would you reccomend in the way of SPD shoes that can be worn for work/Uni without needing to carry spare real people shoes...

I have some SPD/Platform pedals on the way, and need to start thinking about what to clip onto them =P
