I bought some 'wicking' socks and they're great. Is there an equivalent for pants since most
underwear is cotton which holds sweat?

As a related question, I never wear lycra shorts for cycling but are you supposed to have underwear underneath them?

You can get wicking shreddies, more hill walking-type stuff though than cycling (no need for them) so have a look in Cotswolds or somewhere like that.

But you really should try some lycra. You don't wear anything under them but if you're feeling a bit self-concious you can obviously wear something over them!

First time out does feel a bit like going out in public in your shreddies  but you soon get used to it.

Only problem with that is I'd need five pairs for the week.

That's the wife's department - I would be nagged to death if I put timescales on when the washing must be done by

There are those ones that astronaught wore for 6 weeks. They must be pretty good.

That's the ideal, I've only got 2 decent pairs so I wear them on alternate days, and give them a good rinse through when I get home they're dry 36 hours later. :D

In honesty, you can wear the same shorts 2 days in a row without anything getting too manky. After all, you're not keeping them on all day, and as long as they get to dry out in between uses they won't get unpleasant. You can probably get away with 3 days as long as no-one else is coming to close to either the shorts or the nether regions, so I reckon while it's not ideal, you can commute a 5-day week on two pairs of alternated, allowed-to-dry shorts.
