Ok I've just got a quote for a 2010 fuel ex 5 on the cycle scheme but seeing as I haven't rode a trek fuel ex bike I wanted to know people's general opinion of the range etc.

I know the 2010 fuel ex 5 comes with the evo link (whatever that is ) but the rest of the components I'll upgrade around christmas

I'm hoping to pick mine up within 4-5 teeks depending on how long they take to send my voucher and when they start stocking the bike as well.

I've only ridden one once, a 2009 Fuel EX8........... I was amazed !!! It was sooooo smooth. A great all round bike which climbs remarkably well for it's travel.

    Cheers......... M

I got a fuel ex back in feb 08

Great bike - you wont be disappointed

re upgrades - as normal the advice is - if you want to up spec the bike look at doing it now by going for a 6 or 7. Otherwise just wait for bits to wear out before changing.

Looks like they've got the ABP system through the whole range now, which is a nice improvement on last year. Like the blue too :D

I wouldn't mind a fuel ex 6, 7, or 8 but I only have £1300 to spend. I will however be able to secure funds for exrta components etc nearer xmas

    :D I've seen it, 2009 model  I'm going for a 2010.

I'm actually part exchanging the old bike which I don't think evans will do.

I've got an '09 Fuel Ex 8 and my wife has a '09 Fuel Ex 5.5 WSD. Both are good trail bikes and IMO great value. The '10 model that you're thinking of should be an improvement with the latest suspension technology.

If you've got any specific questions I'll try to answer them.

what's the difference between having APB and this evo link and not having it? is it some clever marketing ploy or does it make a huge difference?

does anyone actually know when the 2010 fuel ex bikes are out? whilst looking at bikes on the shop computer i remember some bikes were coming out in october (I'm hoping it wasn't the fuel ex 5)

The ABP eliminates brake jack (which is the effect on the suspension caused by applying the brakes). The EVO link is stiffer and stronger than the old linkage (which looks a bit flimsy but my wife hasn't had any problems).

I wouldn't say it's a huge difference (the '09 Ex5.5 is still a good bike) but is worth having.

projectsome if you're buying on the C2W scheme you do realise that the bike is not actually yours until the final payment, the company owns it & can take it back if they so wish, so upgrading it might not be a good idea.

can't see why they'd want to seeing as I will actually be riding to work!
