If you had a brick built detached garage to store your bike and insurance cover would you also get a big ar$ed chain and ground anchor?

wouldn't need one, the bikes would still be in the house....Everything in moderation ... except beer
Beer in moderation ... is a waste of beer

but yes, I probably would. I would also make sure of the insurance coverage in detailEverything in moderation ... except beer

I'm guessing you have no wife/GF? Either that or she is very understanding0 -
Indeed I do have a wife and she, my friend, is a mountainbiker

some people have all the luck
the policy wording seems ok. saying that i work in insurance and all wordings are meant to be somewhat ambiguous.
i know i should really have the extra security but having spent too much money on the bike it will pain me to part with another £150 for a decent chain0 -
I would still have an anchor, if anyone did break in they may be put off from the fact that the bike is anchored as well. Its not unheard of for people to be broken in to more than once, especially if the thieves find it an easy deal.Orange 2010 P7 - Custom Build - My New Bikey Poos

one thing putting me off is that i will need to clear a section of the garage to put the anchor in.
yes i am that lazy at times :?0 -

The irony is, is that the only thing the thieves arent lazy at is stealing! Getting a job, well thats a different story!Orange 2010 P7 - Custom Build - My New Bikey Poos

I'd def use an anchor and a PIR alarm as well. If you do buy one (and a chain) I'd get it from here... http://www.almax-security-chains.co.uk/ ... ts/c-1-73/
Not exactly cheap but a step up from most of the common anchors/chains around.0 -
You can buy 19mm anchor chain very cheaply. Its main line of defence is you can't get bolt croppers around it!0

super where from, google didn't bring anything up immediately...0

Had my intergral garage entered a few weeks ago during the course of which lost two bikes and lots of my kit. My replacement bike will be fixed to a ground anchor with a heavy duty motorcycle lock. I'm also fitting a garage defender and an P.I.A sensor which will be linked to the main alarm........
The only thing I haven't done is buy a large dog to stand guard.
You can never have too many lines of defence.
P.S If your a bike thief and you stole my bike, your not going to get this one.0 -
I would do it aswell, my bike is insured but lives in the bouse even though we have a brick buitl/reinforced shed it never stays out there (too cold poor thing lol) but seriously, as the old saying goes....
Its better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it!"Don't ask the reasons why cos there arent any, don't follow convention, never say no, just believe in what you see and let the good times roll!"0 -
fit a gsm dialer to ya bike or some how sittng your bike on somthing so if its moved it triggerd. then itrings you and you can get to ya garage and catch te fuskers. or fit it to a garage door then ya got plaenty time to catch them at it.0

Had my FSR XC nicked from a detached garage last month and I'll definitely be getting a chain and anchor plus maybe some of the other bits mentioned.
For the sake of £50 it's cheaper than the £100 insurance excess but more importantly you haven't got to live with the fact that some scrawny scrote of a chav is either riding around on your pride and joy or has flogged it to buy drugs - I'm still seething.
Mind you a guy at Halfords reckons they'd chop through the frame to have the components if it's an expensive bike anyway.
Some chains have a siren which would likely scare them off.0 -
Even having a bike in your house is no guarantee that it will not get stolen, as I found out a year ago when I had a £2800 bike stolen from inside my alarmed property @ 2pm one September afternoon
The replacement is now locked with 2 locks to other bikes and secure objects inside my house, so I would definitely use a ground anchor & chain/lock inside an alarmed garage (or shed)0 -

These may be a bit more sturdy0 -
I feel sorry for the unfortunate little wally brain who tries to steal my bikes. If he triggers the sensor, then lasers come through the room, these lasers are able to cut through metre thick titanium. It is programmed to miss out the bikes though, otherwise it would be pointless. (Yes resident evil style http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXgsCPFhSgc)
Then if they somehow manage to escape that, the freeze spray triggers and freezes all human life. Then my flock of geese come and peck the frozen statues until they shatter.
Nahh but seriously the only thing that looks good on a thief is a doberman pinscher. And i have three of them 8)yeehaamcgee wrote:
That's like saying i want a door for my car that doesn't meet the roof, because I once had the wind blow it shut when I was getting in, and I had my head squished between, well, the door and the roof.0 -

Hopefully that will keep the scumbags at bay... :evil:0 -
The almax chain is much better than the Kryptonite when it comes to silent attack.
Make sure your garage’s physical security is good. If you have an up and over door think about fitting a pair of these.I think they are better than the Garage Door Defender since I think the Garage Door Defender advertises you have something to steal.
Think about fitting Square Hole Wire Mesh to any windows. Make it very difficult to get in through the windows. If there’s a wooden external door to the garage make sure it’s fitted with a BS 5 lever mortice lock or even better fit two. Make sure the door and frame are in good condition.

Something else you may want to consider is getting hold of a cheap baby monitor. When our little ones didn't need the monitor any more, i've used ours in the garage as they have mains adaptors. They can be picked up on ebay etc for a couple of quid - or ask on Freecycle. Stick the baby unit in with your bike and keep the Parent unit indoors. They can be quite sensitive and pick up pretty faint noises. Only down side may be that neighbours have a baby and are using a monitor on the same frequency, though they may well hear Johnny Scumbag breaking in too!0
