Can someone please advise on how to get around the issue of monumental ar*e ache each time I ride my bike.

So far I have tried 3 different XC saddles and also padded shorts but after about 30 minutes it feels like I am sitting on a brick. P.S please don't make me get on of those happy shopper saddles that have springs in, I could not bear the shame!!!

    HI,
It might just be the angle of the saddle. I had the same problem with my mtb saddle, I moved it forward (onlyperhaps 5mm) and dropped the nose by a tiny ammount and it sorted it.

I had the same issue on my razor like road bike saddle, similar adjustments sorted the problem straight away....... Failing that, try a Fixik Gobi XM...... mmmmm :)

Will try that. Fizik Gobi is an expensive solution!

At the risk of sounding a bit patronising could it be that you just need to get used to it?
I definitely notice increased a$$ ache if I've not been out for a while but more miles toughens it up!

Obviously position is important but personally I don't really buy into this idea of finding the 'right' saddle- haven't found one yet I couldn't get on with.
  • Have you tried a WTB?

I'm certain that given time, you will acclimatise.
Provided of course that you don't have piles.

Yes, agreeing with the others here, just have to MTFU.

You will get used to it eventually.

i managed to get a really sore arse doing the coast to coast, a good saddle can help but normally the most comfortable saddles that don't give you a sore arse are the most expensive ones

charge spoon also worth a shot, lots of people get on with them.

Yes, charge spoon and sdg bel air are probably the most comfortable saddles out there. Although it appears often that people who like one hate the other..
  • Dropping the nose of my saddle a touch definitely helped the bad back I'd been suffering from (a new bed cured it completely) and changing the saddle on my trail bike, the one I sit on more, to one with a centre channel cut-out has stopped me needing to have my balls ultrasounded in an attempt to find out why they (used to) hurt.
  • Try an S.D.G , a bit expensive but very good
you could even try a pair of padded shorts to take away or reduce the a*s* pain, it worked for me.

been cycling a year, padded shorts, standard saddle on the scott aspect 45, can cycle 40 miles, fine

do 65 in 2 days, sore, just takes time, more you do, the more you can

Sudocrem helps, did 152 miles in 7 days ( not a lot for some, was for me!!!!!!) Sudocrem helped in the following days to recover , on other rides/miles

also i have lost a lot of weight, and i guess that changes your arse shape/ pressure points to new areas?

would explaine why i am sore for the first time in 10 months!?

I use a Charge Spoon and find it very comfortable.

As others have said, you may just need to get used to it, give your backside a chance to toughen up; however if your are in the London City area I have a WTB Pure - Black/Silver with CroMo Rail you'd be welcome to. It has some wear, but would save you splashing cash on yet another saddle you're not happy with.....

+1 for trying to get used to it.

If you keep changing saddle then your botty will never get accustomed to it; if you can put up with the same saddle for a month or two it will slowly get better until you stop getting pain most of the time.

I've been riding for about 6 months now and my bum does hurt a little sometimes still, usually at the start of a ride; but it soon eases off.

The positioning and angle are more important than the saddle.

    This.

Try experimenting with the position before you start changing saddles.
