Hey all,
My bike is a black 2004 Cannondale Scalpel. It'sa 25ib cross country full susser with lock out front and rear and hydraulic discs , has been well maintained and has a RRP of £2000.
Had seen a couple for sale, £900 for one a few yrs old and £600 for a 2003. Of course i don't know if the sellers actually got that money
Was thinking about advertising for £550. Is that realistic? Have any of you sold any older high spec bikes for that money. Tell me your experiences of selling/buying 2nd hand bikes.

rough guide;
RRP of new bike - 50% RRP for the first year - 10% of the remainder per year over 1 year old
so your bike = 2000 x 50% = 1000x40% = 600 GBP
so 500-600 sounds about right, depending on what condition it's inEverything in moderation ... except beer
Beer in moderation ... is a waste of beer
If riding an XC race bike is like touching the trail,
then riding a rigid singlespeed is like licking it
... or being punched by it, depending on the day0 -
Cheers mate.
Any other thoughts? Do you agree? Have you sold an older bike for that kind of money?0 -
I would offer you £400 but im a cheeky bugger ha ha £550 is probably about right but you may have to be patient to get the money you want.0

I paid £300 for a good condition '04 Orange Patriot frame last month so it make make you more cash to split the bike and sell it as components. Although you'll inevitably be left with a box of bits that don't sell.0

can't call yourself a mountainbiker unless you have a box of old bits no-one wants but are in too good nick to chuck out. I call it my "free to a good home box"Everything in moderation ... except beer

I call it 'My lucky box'.0

Your bike is worth as much as whatever someones willing to pay for it..I recently sold my '06 Anthem 2 frame, '07 Fox F100 Rl's and Mavic crossland wheels for £600 (offered), i would of took £450 considering the frame wasnt the best condition cosmetically (scratched anodising doesnt look good at all).0

I hope you didn't tell the buyer you would have taken £600 after he'd handed over his cash, lol!!
I suppose one problem i might have would be being in Scotland (even though i rather like my country! ) - I guess there have to be less buyers up here than in the South East of Engerland.0 -
Parcelforce can be cheaper than you think.0

i'll give you £20... seeing as though I haven't seen a picture and valuation threads aren't allowed on here..
Post it in the "for sale" section at a price that YOU think is reasonable. It may be worth £500 to you, but £20 to me.... get my drift?0 -
Nope, mentioned i was selling it when the new frame arrived, he had a butchers round the bike, all mechanically sound, new seals fitted to forks etc, came back 2 days later (he said he checked how much he'd have to spend if he bought new), ie 895 for a frame alone, then promtly offered 600 english readies (i tried not to rip his hand off..lol).0

parcelforce ? How much do you reckon?
So what preparation would it need to be boxed?0 -

sell it according to the target audience.
my bike was on facebook marketplace for £400, in a local paper for £450 and bikeradar for £370.
yes, same bike different prices. if I put it on ebay I'd put it closer to £500 to cover fees.
I'll see your £20 and raise you £150 -
I sold my GT Aggressor Hardtail for £400.
It was £799 at Halfords when new... only 1 year old, mint condition apart from the old chip in the frame and the spokes needed a wee tweak due to rocky hill rides..
so I would say and I've heard others say on this site..
1year 50% rrp then take off 10% each sub year after that.. ^^^^^ just like wor that bloke said..
saying that I'll give you £10 for it.;)0 -
