It is good to see Roger finally getting a ride at a Grand Tour after a fairly long career in pro cycling - however it seems he is also expected to be riding for Cervelo in the Tour of Britain which starts a week before the Vuelta finishes.
I know certain riders (Friere?) are riding the Vuelta as preparation for the Worlds and intend to pull out after several days but surely not as build up to the ToB! :?

Isn't there a UCI rule that says if you fail to finish a race, you can't enter another race until the first one ends?0

The ToB stages start and finish early to avoid rush hour traffic, so with the Spanish liking for a siesta, the one hour time difference and a fast jet I think he should be able to manage both.

So if you crashed out on stage 1 of a GT you cant ride for another three weeks ?
I was almost right. I looked in the rulebook and there's an exception for grand tours if the organisers agree to it.
Rule 2.6.026
Drop-out
A rider dropping out of the race may not compete in any other cycling events for the duration of the stage race that he abandoned, on pain of a 15 day suspension and a fine of 200 to 1000 Swiss francs.
For major tours, the event directors and the commissaires panel jointly may, however, grant exceptions at the request of a rider and with the agreement of his team manager.
So Hammond will only be allowed to ride the ToB if the Vuelta organisers say so.0
