Cycling Insoles

I have one very flat foot and one more normal foot and wear orthotics in my normal more active shoes.

I tend to get hot feet (quite often) and occasionally a plantar fasciitus flare up in one foot, but generally it's all pretty tolerable and goes during a longer ride. I don't get any knee, hip or leg pain so it's just a minor niggle really. I put a lot of the hotfoot down to m being 20 stone and having to press harder on the pedals than most on crap insoles.

Whilst I know people will recommend going custom (ie. expensive) I want to start off at the bottom end of the price range as I don't think there is much to correct.

I have Sidi Genius' and the less said about the insoles in them the better I think, however I need an insole as thin as the current ones, as anything thicker like my orthitics make the shoes too small.

I have therefore discounted the Specialized BG Footbeds and am looking at the Northwave ones as I believe they are thinner. Does anyone know am I supposed to get the "blue" standard ones as I have one flat/one normal foot (as Specialize recommend with theirs), or what?

Also if anyone can recommend another type of insle in the £20-30 mark that are very thin like the Sidi standard ones that would be helpful too!

Many thanks

From memory there is a company called Sidas ? - google it.

There are also options on the web where you heat up and insole then put it in your shoe and it moulds to your foot.

I got my insoles on the NHS for nothing, it takes a while - but then you get custom insoles, precisley fitted - better than trying to do it yourself.

i use these in my sidi 07 genius 6.6

tho i may seem to be contradicting myself, ive bought a load of insoles in the past and its more frustrating that way so id think you should give serious consideration to a pair of custom insoles.

A pair of Sidas orthotics from Cyclefit are around the £60 mark. By the time you've spent your £20 or £30 a couple of times you might as well have gone for orthotics in the first place. The ones I have are as thin as the standard Sidi items.

If you've only flat feet and not actually markedly deformed feet (you say there isn't much to correct), I'd say you shouldn't need orthotics in cycling shoes because you're not using your feet in same way as walking, running, or even just standing.
I've needed custom-made orthotics for daily shoewear and running shoes for 20 years, but never need or wear them in cycling shoes.

Since plantar fasciitus is usually related to weight on the foot/heel, which isn't the case when cycling, I'd also say orthotics in cycling shoes won't make any difference to that either.
If your feet get so hot in your shoes that it's worth remarking about, maybe your current shoes are simply too small?

Will take a look at the Sidas ones, though a trip to London is out of the question.

Anyone used the generic £40 ones?

I have insoles from teh NHS but they are too thick (like 8mm instead of 3mm that the SIDI's need).
