Got a set of DMR LOCDD grips but I need to remove them but I can get the bar end bung out. I thought part of the point of lock on type grips was they can come on and off easy but there's no way these bugs are coming in and out easy with these DMRs. I had to hit them in with a rubber mallet to get them to go in, the first part went in easy as that's where the slit is but the last part had no slit. And yes the screw is undone. Any ideas? I handlebars are just the standard ones that came with the 08 Avalanche.

    Mm cheap lock ons!

are you wanting to keep them?

  • Well the grips yes as they haven't really had any use, the grips come off just the bar ends don't. Ideally yes I want to keep them other wise I would have destroyed the bar ends by now to remove them.

I have thought of one idea which I may try tomorrow now, put a open end spanner behind the bung and hit that with a mallet see if it will move.

hang on this is just the bar end plug? not part of the grip lock?

buy new. drill a small hole in the end and insert something.

    corkscrew.

    screw.

    expanding wedge etc etc etc.

If you can move your lock on grips a bit further into the centre of the bar and get something (non marking if possible, (plastic or nylon prybars are pain to get hold of though) inbetween the plug and the end of the to wedge then lever the plug out. I doubt you could use the grips to lever the plug out against without damaging the grip or bar.

I'd just cut/wreck the plugs and replace them with something that uses a screw to lock it.

Why are MTB economics; spend twice as much as you intended, but only half as much as you wish you could afford?
  • Thing is these do have a screw to lock them and even after undoing the screw the gits wouldn't come out. Got them out they, tried putting something behind the bug and hit it to remove them but that just started to rip the end of the bung of the middle section. Tried a corkscrew and that couldn't put it out either, ended up drilling it out and cutting the last little bits.

Going to replace them with a set of those Blank bar ends in white that CRC sell.
