105 or Veloce?

I'm thinking about getting one of the Ribble Sportives but am torn between the 105 or Veloce groups. The Veloce group is actually the more expensive one with the Ultrashift Ergopower levers and the skeleton brakes. The 105 bike comes in at £1056.99 and the Veloce at £999.99. i'm swinging towards the Veloce as i've already massively increased my budget (almost doubled it  ) as i've been having no luck finding a used bike. Dont know much about the Campag though so input would be appreciated. Is it roughly on par with the 105's or is it more an alternative to sora or tiagra? could go for xenon for less than £900 but from what i've read its pretty cheap and the plastic levers put me off.

Oh also is it stupid to buy from ribble at this time of year.....meaning, will they be bringing out a 2010 version of the sportive in a couple of months? dont want to pay a grand now only to see it for 800 in a few weeks time!

Also considered the boardman team carbon but despite how good they are i'm not a fan. Could perhaps buy it though just for the groupset and then swap out the frame for the ribble if i could sell the boardman frame for enough. Hmmmmm

I have veloce on my Bianchi and love it. wouldn't go back to the big S now.
£999.99 for full carbon and veloce sounds like a tremendous deal to me.

If the veloce groupset costs more than the 105 why would you think it might be equivalent to Sora or Tiagra? they wouldn't sell any would they...
Plus Sora and tiagra are 9 speed, veloce 10

    This sounds nuts to me.

You say the 105 is £1056, and the veloce is £999?? In my world that means the 105 is the more expensive?

Just as an aside, I got an ultegra equipped sportive for £1099 not 3 months ago!!

If your over budget & not sure go with the cheapest. theres loads of other stuff to buy, computer, saddle pouch, mini pump.

I prefer Shimano - but neither is a bad option - and won't spoil your enjoyment. Ribble tend to do some amazing deals at times - depends how patient you are & if you want to take that new bike out in the wet!

They'll both work fine, as long as they're set up properly. So the question is which do you prefer? Go and ride both and see which one is more comfortable and easy to use. The hoods are different shapes so you will almost certainly prefer one.

Test riding isn't an option i'm afraid as it's too far to travel to preston.

Did look at the planet x but its showing most of the sram group as being out of stock. Also just phones ribble up and they wont have any frames in the size i want until the last week in september! Maybe i should give up and buy a motorbike or a pony or something haha.

Thanks for the opinions on the campag stuff. would be quite happy to go with it so long as it is better quality than the xenon which i saw at my lbs and wasn't impressed by.

Rival trumps Ultegra, this is probably one of the best around for £1000 (as is normally the case with P-X)

Hahaha thats just my usual luck then.

I'm probably just going to wait until the ribble frames come in september as they will fit me perfectly. Hopefully will get at least one day between then and spring that is dry to go out!

07/08 Veloce is the performance equivalent of 105 and if it has the latest 09 levers it will be an upgrade on 105 both from a functional and ergonomic aspect.

Veloce by all means, but remember Campagnolo spares will cost you more than Shimano ones... I'm talking about chains, cassettes, brake pads, cables etc...

    But yes, veloce...

    Why do chains cost more?

A 10spd chain is a 10spd chain, and inner cables are the same too.
