Just test rode the above in a medium frame and am still left unsure as to if I'd be better with a small.
The LBS didn't have one in stock (or any small Specialized's). In the leg, on the bike it felt fine, but was a bit concerned with the standover height. I had space, but near the front of the frame it was only about an inch. Obviously given the shape of the frame it was considerable more further back. I am a shade over 5'7" and have a 29" seam.
Any experience/feedback from other riders of similar dimensions, or those running a small/medium FSR/Stumpjumper frame?
All info greatly appreciated.

Im 5'8" and I was also torn between the small and medium stumpy. Tried both and the small felt a bit too small while the medium felt slightly big.
Ive done around 50 miles around swinley in the last week and Im really happy with the size. I have found fine tuning the saddle and seatpost have made a difference. At first it was a little low and as a result my lower back was quite sore after a couple of hours. Ive upped the seatpost and set the saddle pretty much in the middle and find its perfect now. I think the small would have been a bit too small for me.

I had the same trouble, easy fix , the medium is the perfect size, changed the stem for a shorter one and it transformed the bike, seat in the middle and away to go, i'm an inch taller than you.0
