Just a quick warning to Dt Swiss rim owners- getting my new Specialized 'The captain' tyre on was an absolute nightmare, the tolerence on either the rim or the tyre is so tight it took a good twenty minutes of huffing and puffing to get the new tyre on- eventually had to resort to metal tyre levers- bad -and ended up scratching my rim slightly. The panacer fire XC s I had before where tight, but this was insane!!!!

did you try using washing up liquid as a lube?

was the tyre seated in the well of the rim (central part which is the deepest bit)?

Or pop the tyres on the radiator to warm up and make more pliable.

You lightweight i can put on fire xc's on a 4.2 by hand, i think you need to work on your technique. ;)

And ftlog don't buy an intense tyre, you'll be there all day.
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

fire XC were on by hand, it's the Speshes that where a problem- they were difinitly seated properly, but I didn't lube them in any way or raditor them first- just think you should be able to it out on the trail if you get a flat, IMO there's no reason to make 'em quite so tight.

I recall reading that if a tyre is insanely tight, remove it from the rim and try re-seating another area of the tyre, and use the tyre levers about 90º to the the right for example, if it's still too tight, repeat the process. Apparently this can help you find an area on the bead that isn't so tight so the tyre levers can get the tyre seated.

Lots of soap and BF&I** also does it

Try fitting a Specialized 2.5 Dual Ply DH Clutch tyre to a rim - it's challenging
