I got bitten by the cycling bug again about 18 months ago and up untill now I've been wearing some padded mtn bike shorts and an old gym top whilst riding. Now after some umming and ahhing about wether or not I'd be quick enough to enter without making a tit of myself I've decided to have a go at my first TT on wednesday, and so have decided to treat myself to some new kit. All I'm after is some advise on which brands tend to wear well and which don't, and if you've been impressed with how well your stuff has lasted. I'm no millionaire so would rather buy once than buy wrong and end up splashing out for more kit sooner than intended. Also what are your opinions on wearing team kits? would you get laughed at if you turned up in the latest team colours and wasn't 'fast' enough to be wearing them?
cheers

    Wear what you like!

I'd recommend going in to good local bike shop and trying some stuff on.

The Gore kit is good stuff that won't break the bank but is high quality and durable.

If ordering online then people seem to like dhb from Wiggle although I personally have no experience of them other than being sent two pairs of bibtights that were both defective.

    Take a look at http://www.prendas.co.uk/

They have a good selection of team & non-team kit. The majority of it is Santini, which is a popular brand. If you need help with sizing, Mick & Andy at Prendas are extremely knowledgeable and will help you find the right sizes and products.

Wear team kit if you like it! I do, and I'm not the fastest rider in the world. At the end of the day, I like it and that's all that counts!

But in your defence, you did win all the jerseys this year's Giro and the KoM title in the tour.

Note though, that while you can wear team kit in club time trials, which presumably is what you are riding, it is not allowed in open events.

+1 again for Prendas, not cheap though.
DHB stuff is good value & scores well in the mags.
If you have a Decathlon near you their own range is very good quality & inexpensive, shorts from £6.95 up, jerseys from budget (£7.95) to normal standard (£29.95), excellent quality mitts, gloves, arm & leg warmers, winter jackets from £40-£60.
Shoes are O.K. but they also stock Shimano lower end.
    Socks - I use M&S sport socks personally !
    My knees hurt !
