New FSR XC - geometry?

First post here - great site.
Have just purchased a 2009 Specialized FSR XC expert as a replacement for my 2007 Rockhopper which was recently stolen. I decided to go full sus for the first time as will be getting a road bike as well on C2W next year.
I wasn't able to test ride the bike in my size as I couldn't find a 2009 bike locally - now it has arrive I'm finding it quite cramped to ride - I can't find a position to get my legs nearly straight on the pedal downstroke unless I put the saddle up so high I can barely touch the ground when stationary. I double checked that I have the correct size - XL - for my height - 6'4".
Is there anything I can do to adjust the bike to relieve this problem, or have I just bought the wrong bike? Maybe I just need to get used to it....
Cheers.

From what you've said i think the bike sounds fine. With the saddle at the optimum height for pedaling efficiency there should be a slight bend in your leg with the pedal at its lowest position. This means you cant sit on the saddle with your feet flat to the floor when stationary. You need to tilt the bike or stand. I have the same bike as you (albeit a years older) i'm 5' 10 '' and have the large frame which is perfect so the xl sounds spot on to me.0

Thanks Robinta.
That's what I had in mind about the optimum height for pedalling - just feels a bit different to the old hardtail. Was imagining the bottom bracket was significantly higher or something.
I'll keep playing around with the saddle height to get it right - so simple really!0 -
I went from a hardrock to fsr and it took me a while to adjust, but i love it now.0

If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.0 -
Saddle height is to do with your seat to pedal height - the floor doesn't come into it.0
