Mavic Avenir

Sadly I am having to send back a pair of Sidi pro 5's that I bought, as I wear an insert in my right shoe which meant the mega's were too wide on the non insert shoe and the normal size is to tight on the other.
So I am looking at a pair of Mavic Avenir's, I've read the reviews on here but wondered if anyone has anything to add on Mavic shoes and particularly the Avenir?
Cheers for any input in advance.

I've recently bought a pair and really like them.
However, I've not had any other road shoes to compare them with and my feet are both 'standard', so what I think may not be of use/help .....
My friends also ask me how come Morrisons are doing bike shoes now....(see the tongue logo) - funny b*stards...0 -
I have a pair of Mavic Zxellium and the fit is very comfortable whilst I find the standard Sidi a bit on the tight side (I haven't tried the Sidi mega). So the Mavic fit may work for you - like you a use an insert on the shoe.
Evans are selling off the 09 Mavic Pro shoe at £109 which looks a decent price if you are going the Mavic route and maybe worth a look - i am not sure how much of an upgrade it is versus the Avenir.0 -
Ive got a pair of Avenirs and they're really really comfy. They seem to be on the nose size wise. Nice and snug but not really tight. Ive had DhB mountain bike shoes that are stupid wide and just don't fit too nice, and I've got a fairly wide foot!
My only gripe is the ratchet system. The release is really good and you can tighten them up on the ratchet by just pushing the strip down, but if you want to click it up a couple to get them a little tighter on your foot the leavery bit can slip ever so slightly and it dosn't feel entirely positive.
I got mine from ribble. They were about 70 quid instead of the 90. Cheapest I could find. Well impressed with them. Look awesome in white, but do scuff a bit.0 -
Have you looked into having another insert fashioned for your other foot that would make sizing equal for both feet?0

eeerm, seeing as you have wierd feet have you considered going around shops and trying them, might be the way forward?0

I can only have an insert in one shoe to keep the leg lengths the same. I sustained the problem after having reconstructive surgery on my knee when I was 14 and the insert (just under 1cm) is to stop my back going wonky; works a treat for me
The insert was only an issue with Sidi's from all those I have tried and there is no Sidi dealer near me, so I took a punt ordering them online.
I've tried on Mavics before so all cool there, just wanted to know how the Avenir was in general.
I shouldn’t have really mentioned the insert it's beside the point to be fair, being too descriptive in my original post due to my sadness at Sidi’s not fitting
And thanks for the feedback all, much appreciated, I think I'm going to give them a whirl.

Ah, OK. Well in that case if it's just the leg length issue you can use a shim under the cleats to compensate and have a wider range of shoes available to you. But of course if the insert has a more complex shape to handle other issues than I guess the shim idea won't work for you.0
