following on from yesterdays thread concerning a bike that fell of a bike rack, how do you transport your bike?
Im in the market for a new vehicle in a few months and currently carry my bike in the back of the g/f's Fiesta with the front wheel taken off (my car only has 2 seats)
So what's your chosen method of getting your bike onto the trails?

right now i'm the same as you, in the back of the car with a wheel taken off. i've tried boot mounted bike racks and they just don't feel safe to me. so, i'm just gonna go and buy a roof mount system, my mate's got the thule system and it feels really solid. it's quite pricey as you have to buy the roof rack aswell but i feel safer using it0

My Seat Ibiza FR is a bit of a difficult one for racks. I don't like roof mounting, so that got ruled out straight away. It won't take a boot mounted rack and it's very difficult to fit a tow bar because of the low rear bumper (apparently).
So my bike goes in the boot, wheels off on a big ground sheet. It's a bit of a pain, but it does at least mean my bike isn't on display when I'm driving home from the trail.0 -
My bikes go in the car.
One goes in whole
two stacked horizontally with the front wheels off
4 and *maybe* even 5 stacked vertically (like books on a shelf) with both wheels off
That way there's no security issue (either from fear of theft or dropping/banging the bikes on anything) and no additional air resistance to bean your fuel use (rear racks aren't too bad but my experience with roof top ones was pretty horrendous). Plus there's nothing to fit, just open 'er up and chuck 'em in. Of course the inside of the back of my car is a bloody mess but then it's an Alfa SW so worth the square root of not much anyway.Everything in moderation ... except beer
Beer in moderation ... is a waste of beer
If riding an XC race bike is like touching the trail,
then riding a rigid singlespeed is like licking it
... or being punched by it, depending on the day0 -
Week to week my bike goes in the back of a Volvo estate. Don't even need to take the front wheel off.
If I need the boot space I use an Atera GIRO AF bike holder on the roof. Very secure.
I must say I find I quiet disturbing to look up out of the sunroof to see my bike perched there whilst doing 60 mph down a dual carriageway!0
