The best way really is to buy a few of the mags and read them, you'll pick it up pretty quickly. If there's anything specific you want to know about, you can always post it on here (try searching first), people are usually fairly helpful with any queries.

    Welcome to the forum.
  • Hi Again

Thank you for your help, the problem is I am in Spain and getting any English mags is a nightmare and the postal delivery is not the best. I have just posted a new thread with the hope somebody might already have thought about this idea.

I have an GT Avalanche 1.0 and am looking to upgrade I love the frame but want to know should I upgrade or buy a GT expert, the frame for me is perfect.

What forks are on your Avalanche? Does it have V or disc brakes? What components are you looking to upgrade? And what is your budget?
  • It has discs on the bike but the back one is rubbish I will have to wait till I get home to tell you all the specs.

    The gears
    The Brakes
The forks although I have not had enough experience to tell you if I need to the ones I have are quite good.

  • Are you living or on holiday in spain? If your living just post a topic asking people to reccomend products for your budget/ discipline of riding and within a few days you should be in the know. simples.

The manufacturer websites are a good start - they list specs, materials features etc.
  • Thank you everyone:

No problems, I was being a bit lazy, hoping someone would have the answer for me he he,

I have notice that you did (Supersonice) a review on MTB for 2009 on price range which puts my bike in the middle range which is good.

However do you know the decatholons best bike in the 500 - 800 £ or € bracket as I have a huge dec here in Spain and yes I am living here for nearly five years now.

The Rockrider 8.2 is a great XC biek for the money:

    http://www.decathlon.co.uk/EN/rockrider-8-2-69567857/

It is not as rough and tumble as your GT, but will be several pounds lighter.
  • With my size and weight I need something solid not neccessary light. I am 95kg fit but small and compacted, If the rockrider isn't up to rough and tumble it is not good for me. he he he

Have you mistyped your weight in there, because I'm small 5' 5" fit and 61.5 kg, if I were 95kg I would be seriously obese, BMI 34.9.
Now where's that "Get Out of Crash Free Card"
  • Hi I am not sure how to answer that, I am 5 ft 9in and I am 95 kg average and yes I suppose I am obeise but if I can cycle 40 kms a day swim 2 kms and have a bmi of an overweight obsei guy but hey bring it on, I Climb every year and throughly enjoy life. I am not sure the measurments for working that sort of thing out really are always fair, if you take the fact I was in the Army for 26 years and have represented them in several sports. Basically I am just a big guy1!!!!

But now can't belive how much I've learned for just over a year.

    See sig.
Kona hardtail is about 17.5", new wolf ridge is 'medium' which works out as about 17.5", and my old wolf ridge is around an 18 or 19" frame.
  • Nice bikes:

I was lent a Scott ransom by a shop for three weeks to trial it and brought subsquently. Fantastic bike.

Sold that now have a hard GT 1.0 Avalanche which I pimped extended the handle bars and stem it is very comfortable.

Looking for something else now and just catching up with all the tech info and what I can move on to, I think it will be GT PRO or scott scale.
