Hi,
I've got a Giant TCR advanced 1 currently set up with a 39/53 and 12/27 on the rear.

I want to add a triple for a trip to the Pyrenees , but do it on the cheap if possible. Doesn anyone know if a 105 triple would be OK with what i've got, or can recomend another tripple chainset that would do the job.

Finally....I'm assuming that the 12/27 on the back isnt going to give me any issues with a triple?!

Thanks for your help... :?

  • I used to have a TCR Advanced which I wanted to fit a triple to and was told by my LBS that it wouldn't take it. Not sure why, I think it was to do with the chainstay clearance. Maybe a compact would be the way to go, espeically if you fit a 12-27.

Thanks. Dont like the sound of that mind! I was considering a comapct, but having seen some of the climbs that i'm doing, I think i'd be safer with a triple, especially as I dont want to end up laying out the cash and then having to get off an walk!

you'll get up anything with a compact and a 27 if youre even half fit

I'm obviously less than half-fit then...

Ahem, you're based in the Netherlands yes?

A 34 x 27 should get you up most things without touring gear etc, but only if you are fit. Don;t think many could get up a 30% slope, even in a 34 x 27.

I think it all depends on your front derallieur as to whether a triple chainset will work. Don't see why a 10 speed rear wouldn't be compatible with a triple chainset and vice versa.
