Morning all, first post here, have loads of questions to come.
I'm just getting into mountain biking at the age of 43, and just reaching the point where the soup dragon is going to authorise some expenditure.
I have looked at website called www.allterraincycles.co.uk which seem to do very good finance deals. Has anyone dealt with them? Good? Bad? Things to be aware of? I know they have a limited selection of bike makes (it's mountain bikes I am specifically looking at.)
One of the decisions I will have to make is whether to go with my companies ride to work scheme (limited to Halfords or Cyclesuk) or go with someone else. So any advice would be gratefully received.
My budget whatever I do will be up to £600.
Secondly - does the name matter? Are bikes given a price premium because of the name or less so? If I don't mind snobbery, for example could a decathlon rockrider be as good as a similarly priced Kona?
David.

Some people are like slinkies - not much use for anything, but they bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

Have a look about 6 posts down.

They are a good company0 -
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

Thanks to those who showed links to all terrain, i searched on the website name and it didn't come up. Teach me to search better, or better still look further in the posts!
What about my question on the extra price for the big names? Are they better or should I consider Halfords own make etc. Some people are like slinkies - not much use for anything, but they bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

I'd certainly check out your cycle to work scheme, Halfords stock some great bikes and not only have some great bikes in their own Carrera range, they also stock GT and Boardman.

All Terrain Cycles are excellent. They were founded in 1907 as Riley Brothers of Crosshills and moved from the original shop to their new showroom in Shipley (in Salt's Mill, next to the Hockney Gallery) in 2006. I've used them a number of times (in fact my Giant VT came from there in 2005) and I've no complaints. If you get chance to visit the show-room, do so - it's mahoosive and the staff are friendly and clued up.
As far as MTBs are concerned they stock Orange, Trek, Giant, Mongoose, Kona, Iron Horse, Diamond Back and Yeti amongst others - I'd say that's a fairly good selection. I know that all the Giants, Treks, Iron Horses and Oranges are available with up to 3 years 0% finance regardless of price. This is organised through Black Horse Finance so no worries there.0
