Flat handlebars to Drops?

I have a specialised Sirrus which I love.
I also have a yearning for a road bike I went to the local bike shop and priced up a new road bike, which was about $1000 NZDs, but that was without pedals, water bottle cage, lights, trip computer etc
So, was out cycling on Sat and was thinking if I would be better just changing the handlebars?
Can I? Would the frame geometry suit drop handlebars? How much work would be involved? and is it likely to cost more than it's worth?
TIA,
Lou

It probably would work but you would need the bars, shifters, bar tape and maybe a new stem. Personally I don't think its worth it cause it would end up costing over 100 pounds. And now you know, and knowing is half the battle
