Noticed a scratch and chip on the left hand (damping leg) of my forks today.

I've circled the scratch and put an arrow to where the chip is at the bottom of the scratch. Sorry about pic quality, couldn't get the camera to focus properly.

Annoyingly done while the bike was in the garage rather than some fantastic crash. You can easily feel the chip when you run your nail over it. I've given it a light sand with some very fine wire wool and taken the rough edges down so you can't feel it if you run your finger tip over it.

Really don't want to have to fork out £ 200 for a set of replacement stanchions. What issues is it going to cause. All the damping internals are inside the stanchion so they shouldn't be affected? Worst I can think of is the internal seals might get compromised so more muck ends up inside?

have a look in the FAQs and fix it.

it is not hard to sort.

Cheers Nick, looks easy enough, don't think the damage is as bad as that in your example photos. Will go get some 'paint' and 1200 grit W &D paper. Any recommendation on whats sort of paint? Enamels, i.e. model paints?
