I was wondering if anyone out there has used an Asterisk knee brace and if it is any good.
I broke my tibia plateau about 15 months ago and although I've been back on my bike for some time I still get pain in my knee especially doing more knarly trails with rocks and roots.

I know a couple of people that use them for enduro motorbike racing and have only heared positive reports.

If i had the money I would buy myself a set without blinking, unfortionally I dont have the money so got myself EVS visions (for motorbiking)
  • The price! that's why I was hoping for some reports. I want something that will take some of the pressure off the knee joint and these were the only ones I found. Maybe there is something available a bit more realistic pricewise?

There are loads of knee braces on the market.

Do you normally wear knee pads or just want the support?

My EVS visions were £125ish although they really are about preventing to weak knees rather than supporting the knee

If you dont need the impact protection, some of the general sports knee braces are alot cheaper but dont offer impact protection. Would be fine for XC etc and give the support you are after.
  • I searched the web and found braces that support but don't offer much protection.
I (nearly) always wear protection as I've seen plenty of damaged knees over the years so that's why I keep coming back to the Asterisk.
Perhaps I should seek some professional advice. Mind you the consultant who dealt with my broken leg said "riding a bike is ok.....on the flat!" I told him "I don't do flat".
    He shrugged.

    whats your budget?
  • If you've not had 'proper' advice about supports I'd say the money is best spent there. Find yourself a knee surgeon/specialist that preferably specialises in sports medicine and get their advice. I did - found out the supports would have been innefective and had several ops in 1 and it transformed my knee and my life. I'm not saying you'll need an op - just different supports for different things and you may end up making things worse if you chose incorrectly.
  • As I live near Loughborough I'm going to look into seeing an injury specialist for advice.

Spending nearly £300 on something that may not do any good isn't a good plan.

Thanks for all your comments and advice I'll see how I get on.
