says they are ok on most carbon steer tubes so maybe?0
-
hmmm, well you hope so for the price..... just cant see it written down anywhere!0
-
I hope so, I have carbon bars and the 25.4 Thompson Elite stem0
-
I've got the thomson elite x4 stem, with ritchey wcs carbon rizers. I don't think there is a stem that wont work with a carbon bar, its just how tight you tighten it.0

Fair enough, Cheers peeps... Deffo going for the thomson stem/seatpost combo then0
-
Well, they are the best..

hehe... but do i get the layback or straight post?! thats what i'm struggling to decide!
Doubt i'll need a layback tbh!0 -
I've got a Thompson layback seatpost as I needed the extra space.
Makes quite a difference, so I wouldn't go with that choice unless you need to change position.0 -

i have an x4 on my ritchey wcs carbon bars fitted to my stumpy. i like the stem, it is suprmely well made and a really nice bit of kit to look at, the interface between bar and stem is really well machined so grips really well without having to tightem the bolts up too hard.
it isnt particularly lightweight but id be suprised if there is anything as strong plus it looks ace.
the posts are ok, the machined finish means they never slip in the seat tube but apart from that, i dont see why they are so pricey, the head is really fidly and the post in general is pretty heavy for the money.
they are reputed to be super strong and will bend instead of break but ive never bent any other much cheaper version so i dont know how important that really is.
i cant help thinking the kit is only so popular or revered is because it is expensive. slap a price tag on anything and some webster will buy it.
mind you, i have a stem and post on the stumpy and a spare thomson elite post in my spares box so what do i know.0 -

I see what you mean!
I'm going back to the original idea of truvativ team stem and post... both are lighter and cheaper!!!0 -
How about the exotic stuff like I have? The stem may be a bit light for you though.0
-
Yea i've been looking at the exotic stuff lots and lots.... was planning on the bars (still on my mind) but have gone off the stem and seatpost
Its a right arsehole being a big bloke and wanting a nice lightish xc bike0 -
Even the scandium bars?! Utter bargain!0

Oh noes! the scandium bars are still on the cards!
Just depends if I think i can put up with the livery on them :evil:0 -

I think those are the same as the Kooka Race stems - very very similar apart from the end plate.0

that exotic stuf looks ace on paper, top spec but like ben, i just dont like the way they look0

Of course they sell loads and is few and far between lol. Like commencal ;-). Not the reason I wouldn't buy one, but it happens to lots of things.0
