This morning my bike developed a horrible noise whilst pedalling,it sounds like something needs lubing/greaseing but everything still feels smooth. The chain is lubed and the gear change is smooth.

Iinitially I thought it was from the bottom bracket area, but when i got home I tried 2 different back wheels and the noise stopped with both of them.

I removed the skewer .cleaned & lubed it, put the original wheel back on and the noise is the still there.

The wheel is an Easton EA50 and has covered nearly 3000 miles. The noise is only there when pedalling, but. the usual noise when free wheeling is a lot louder.

Thanks in advance.

At a guess your rear wheel hub needs to be stripped down. The bearings cleaned and greased, or replaced if they are cartridge bearings :(
How does the rear axle feel if rotated by hand with the wheel off the bike ?
It should be smooth and quiet with no rough spots or graunchy noises.

I had an annoying noise coming from somewhere in the drive train. Finally found it was the freehub body. It had developed a little bit of play and the noise was it moving a fraction under pedaling. A simple nip up and it was sorted, now it's as silent as silent thing, which is nice.

Worth checking out the freehub mechanism (lube / movement).
