Insuring your bike

Not sure if this is the right topic or not so apologies if it isn't.
Just bought a new bike and I don't want to have to replace it out my own pocket should anything happen to it either through accident or theft.
I'm looking at doing mainly Sportives next year with a bit of time trialling thrown in too.
My quesiton is in general does your House insurance cover for these types of events or is it worth getting specific cycle insurance to cover the bike?
Last time I had a bike insured on my house insurance it was only up to £500 and it excluded any organised cycle event or racing.
Training bike is about £800 & my new bike is £1600 so it's fair old difference.

Search the forums.
Depends on your house insurance, but Marks & Spencer house insurance covers everything, everywhere, up to £4000 per item. No nasty get-out clauses and the like. It's what I have, and judging by forum responses, also what a number of cyclists are using. Looks very good - it's more expensive than regular house insurance policies, but cheaper than house insurance + dedicated cycle insurance for typical road bike values.
Otherwise ETA was the most reasonable (in terms of cash and terms&conditions) of the specific cycle insurance policies I looked at.
Check the terms & conditions very carefully in either case, this is what gets you!0 -
Thanks for the info.
My house policy is due for renewal soon so may be worth moving it if necessaryScott CR1 Team

I went for M&S - but not the full deal - just theft. Costs no more than regular insurance - it only get expensive if you take all the options and have it covered away from home.0

Halifax has unlimited contents incl bikes, but watch on the TTs as they don't cover damage while "racing".0

I have mine covered as a specified item under my home insurance policy with esure.
Had the misfortune to make a claim earlier this year. Brilliant service - claim was settled in 48 hours, no quibble.
Just check the wording carefully and/or ask the insurer. Any form of racing is almost certainly excluded. There's no such thing as too old.0 -
I'm with M&S due to the £4,000 cover also.Tail end Charlie
