Think that would be too far, it would look awesome, yes, but in the same way that these look awesome.

Although I like the gold pitch colour, the frame doesn't work with anything else. Looks awful with black forks rims and silver chainset. I think you would have a hard time making it look awesome.

Although it would probably grow on me in time.. They all do

spank royale bars and stem, spank gold wheels, hope gold bits, forks will be a problem...

matt black would probably go best.

raceface do some gold cranks, kmc TiN chain, sram X-0 in gold....

Nah, it would end up looking like this.

It sounds a good idea, but its not a good look.

Although I'm gonna be a complete hypocrite and say I actually like this one..

Whats with specialized always putting cheap cranks on their bikes?

You get a 2000.00 bike and you get a deore crankset. :?

The Pitch isn't a £2000 bike that's why. RRP is £1400 for the pro, lots of people (inc me) paid about a grand.

Also, who really cares about the cranks, it makes very little difference to how the bike feels and rides.

So you reckon in a blind test riding a bike you could tell whether they were deore or lx or xt? Bet you couldn't.

    +1. Cranks are important.

I found it on a page about the new 2010 specialized range, and it said it was the 2010 pitch. It was very successful last year, so maybe they just haven't change it much, like the allez.

Did another search for pictures of the 2010 pitch, and found these.

Looks the same as the one I posted earlier.

    Cranks are important.

Says the man who recommends wasting ludicrous amounts of money on CK headsets.

Chris King headset is warranted for 10 years, although they last longer then that, and are easily serviceable. Other headsets seem to be knackered after a year or two. Get a cheap £30 headset if you want. I'll spend £50 on mine, get a much better looking and quality headset that will last me 10 times as long. So you end up spending loads more then me. Plus fitting.

Don't have to be a rocket scientist to work it out.

The Pitch is unchanged for 2010.

Don't think they've announced the colours for the UK yet, so that might well be the american or some other market one, or a demo bike.

If you look on the Specialized site it has the 2010 Enduro etc but it just shows a brown Pitch Pro, same as the 08 one.

What I actually reckon is, the further up the scale you go (deore,LX,XT,XTR), the lighter, stiffer and smoother shifting the cranks get, all of which riders of any level will notice.

    - SLX front derailleur instead of LX
    - Wider rims - the 445Ds on the 08/09 were the same as on Rockhoppers and pretty narrow for an AM bike
    - Elixirs instead of Juicys
    - The new crankset looks nicer and I think a double and bash is a better idea (I have changed to that setup anyway on mine)
    - Also appears to have a chain device - maybe a Blackspire Stinger?
    - New air fork instead of coil might make it a bit lighter - doesn't say anything about U-Turn or compression/lockout, is this only on coil forks?

It says that it has Motion Control, which means it has compression and lockout.
It doesn't have U-turn because, you only see U-turn on Coil or Dual Air forks, not on Solo air, I think. :? :)
  • it would be nice to know the weight... assuming that the air fork is lighter.

£1600 for a Pitch Pro! wasn't this bike available for just over a grand last year? Can't see them selling out this year if that's the retail price

They were available for a grand on offer when they were running out - the RRP was always £1400.
  • what is the difference between Elixirs and Juicys?

Which £2000 doesn't have a low end crank? The missus £1900 Stumpjumper Elite had:
    Chainset:
    Custom Shimano FC-M542, 175mm

So although technically not Deore, it's sub SLX bits, the same design as the old Deore.

What I find odd is they then put an XTR rear mech and SLX gearing. I'm sure it would have cost roughly the same to use full SLX, but would have been stronger and 200g or so lighter.

..and don't get me started on cheap rear hubs on these bikes, M525, grr! Oddly the full bike is still floaty light, it could have been amazing with a bit less focus on expensive derailleurs that look nice.

The Pitch Comp's were available for around £1k, then reduced to just under that.

2010 bikes are 10-20% more expensive than 2009 bikes, which themselves saw a 10-20% increase over 2008 bikes.

My 2008 Enduro SL Pro Carbon cost me £2700, the same spec equivalent 2010 model (Aluminium only for 2010) costs £3500. That's an £800 increase and it's not even Carbon.

Now is not the time to be in the market for a new bike !!
