Manual is more useful.0

I got my first bike at age 4, had various random bikes up until BMX hit the UK in the eighties, then made my way up to a Haro Master top end freestyle bmx. Then mountain bikes came along. Go my first one in '94. Fast forward to 2009 and I have a shed filled with four mountain bikes and a motorbike and I can't wheelie any of them, and to be honest, I've never felt I needed to. As Sonic says, being able to manual is much more useful, in fact the only place where being able to wheelie is handy is when you go past the chippie and want to impress the girls . . . . although it's been many years since girls were impressed by this. Nowadays they'd just point and say "Look, a fat old man has fallen from his bicycle. Quickly, we must run to him with our camera phones and Facebook the incident."0

Joe pineapples, that's hysterical
Seriously though, the only use for a wheelie I can think of is that you can use the same basic technique to lift the front wheel over drops. It's like doing a small wheelie.0 -

impressing girls is the main reason.
apart from that it's more about bike control than anything else.
as sonic says learn how to manual and it helps you over loads of stuff like muddy puddles and small root's
if you learn to manual a decent amount you can then adapt it to an american bunny hop.
american bunnyhop is where you bring the front wheel up as high as possible then suck the back up to the same height.
you can clear much larger objects than a traditional straight up hop0 -

Its just helps your bike handling, manualling and helps you with lifting the front wheel out of the way of roots, rocks e.t.c.
