Hi,
i used to do a little riding as a kid with my parents but ten years of neglecting my bike has taken its toll. it barely gets out of the shed without something breaking.
I was thinking of getting a new bike to get back into riding again, nothing excesive to start with but hopefully within time ill be going for long rides somewhere. i was thinking of buying a Trek 3700 for £239.99 here http://www.evanscycles.com/products/trek/3700-2009-mountain-bike-ec016484 I was just wondering wether this is a good bike to get started and if its at a good price.
any feedback would be good to hear.

It's ok, but there are some bad points - the chainset is far too large really (most use 44/32/22 ) ratios, and the 7 speed freewheel is lacking too.
The Decathlon Rockrider, Giant Boulder and Carrera Vulcan offer a lot more for your money and have had more thought put into them.0 -

there is one of these in my local halfords, would this be a better option?0 -

I ride a vulcan XC disc spec and its a cracking bike to start again, i used to ride a Giant Track ATX 850 back in the day when i were a young lad....
Ten years later ive got the carrera and im very impressed with it, im a similar height to you but ive opted for the 18" model as the way id measure it, its more a 17" and ive got plenty of room to move around on the bike should i need it, the seat post has a lot of height adjustment and also its quite a small bike with the seat down should i be trying jumps and other such shenanigains, you will probably find the SR Suntour fork is too soft for you btw and the brakes are good for cables but after trying the skinnies at dalby forest on them i opted for better straight away.
I now run Rock Shox Dart II's and Avid Elixir-R hydraulic discs and its a very competent bike for anything im capable of throwing it into at the moment!
Hope this helps your decision bud!"Don't ask the reasons why cos there arent any, don't follow convention, never say no, just believe in what you see and let the good times roll!"0
