I'm really keen to have a stab at night riding - can anyone recommend any courses where I can try this out? Or maybe even a 24 hour race coming up?

why not just go out to whatever trail you ride, at night?
It'll be winter soon enough anyway, so anything after about 7pm will be a night ride.

Where do you live? Anything after 4pm is a night ride in winter, lol.

hmm, fair point, but after I get home from work, and have something to eat, I'm lucky if I'm out of the house on the right side of 7pm.

Yeah best starting point is to ride some simple, non-technical routes that you know well to get you used to riding under just your lights, then just steadily build up the level of trail/route you do.

Stick to the ones you do in the daytime regularly so you have less surprises!

Or go on something mega technical, mega fast, and mega dangerous, with just a commuter light. Then get a decent light, and do some normal riding, and it will be so much easier in comparison. :D
