Hi guys, im a new one to this forum and im loving this site.

Ive started taking up biking after leaving my gym a few months back, im doing mainly xcountry and I decided to get a new bike cos the one I was using was quite pants.
Anyways after reading up a bit for a bike that suits me I picked the carrera fury, it was a really hard decision between the fury and the gt avalanche 1.0 (08). I managed to get it for £270 in excellent condition with 18 months warranty off ebay. Does this seem like the right choice out of the two bikes? They are both around the same price and both get great reviews but the fork and brakes on the fury won me over. Has anyone got this bike, if so what do you think, better than the GT or not?

Hope to hear from you bike pros! Thanks

  • £270? You got a bargain!

I would take the Fury over the GT everytime, purely as I'm not a fan of the geometry on the Avalanche. Obviously your mileage may vary but I think you made the right choice if only on spec.
Less internal organs, same supertwisted great taste.
  • Thanks Scott, do you think the Carrera is as upgradable as the GT though because it seems the GT may have a better frame though im not entirely sure.

    Thanks Scott...

My name isn't actually Scott. That's the make of one of the bikes in my sig. That said, being called Scott Purgatory would be incredibly cool. Makes me sound like some kind of comic book super hero.

Regarding the frames , in terms of weight and build quality I'm not sure how much difference there is between the two, but I expect very little indeed. They are more or less on a par with each other, as most frames at this price point tend to be. How well it fits you tends to be far more important at this level.

Thats some good advice Giant STP
  • lol, my bad. Although I think Scott Purgatory would defo be a villian. Infact most bikes have evil names. Man I wish I had £600. Theres a GT ID5 I-Drive XCR practically new going for £580 on ebay!

Remember if the bike is second hand you have no warranty unless the seller offers one.

Can I be a super villain named Wolf Ridge? Although that sounds more like a kind of private detective.
Maybe I could be tracking down the evil genius duo of Scott Purgatory, and Zaskar Carbon

In some cases maybe but GT have nothing that comes close to the Fury at that price level.
