That chain costs almost as much as your bike.
Get a 40-50 lock and some decent insurance.0 -
buy insurance and the cheapest lock on the approved lock list...
I've got a very expensive d-lock, but i'd still use insurance because at the end of the day if they want it they'll get it.0 -

Well it's going to be either Kryptonite or Abus -
Is the bike insured? Because the main thing is to ensure it meets the minimum standard of your insurance policy - most likely to be "Sold Secure" rating of Gold, Silver or Bronze.
My policy requires bronze for an insured value below £250, silver upto £1500, and gold at £1500 and above.
FWIW - That Kryptonite one is a level 12 - this Abus one is a level 15 http://www.abus.de/us/main.asp?ScreenLang=us&sid=44161623717562120082009194725434&select=0104b02&artikel=4003318286254
Think you can get either for pretty similar prices - pays to shop around.
Neither of these are very practical for taking with you on a ride mind - these are very much for securing your pride and joy in a shed or similar at home (or at work if you've got some massive SUV to take the lock in one day!)Cannondale Synapse 105, Giant Defy 3, Giant Omnium, Giant Trance X2, EMC R1.0, Ridgeback Platinum, On One Il Pompino...0 -
I got a 3000.00 bike, 40.00 lock and my insurance company will deduct a max of 4% for wear and tear, advised of certain locks, they advised just make sure its locked if you are away from home.0

just check out the wall of shame i'm not sure i agree with their methods, but they do seem to have a pretty good encounter...0

IDEA?
Why not buy a CISA padlock and go to screw fix and get the toughest chains they have.
Seen the locks as cheap as 20.000 -

AND

Catch my drift.
Yes the chain might not be that good, but that lock is the same they use on 150.00 bike locks.

There you go just saved you a hundred pounds.

See like lights, bike specific stuff is a rip off, make your own

thats just it tho the lock and chain have to be good,as all it takes to break a bad chain is a few turns of a pole in the chain!
and i would go the insurance route as if someone did try real hard to nik your bike the chances are they would damage it anyway, and carrying a £120 lock around is not nice,so insurance and their cheapest and lightest lock on their list.0 -
No but people like me that can leave a lock at work. Its great.
I might buy one of those motorbike chains TBH they have a gold rating I think.0 -
so have all the others on the wall of shame,
what's £150-£200 for a decent lock and chain or £1500-?????? for a new bike should it get nicked...
get the best lock you can afford, all you can do si make it as hard as posable for the theif.www.bearbackbiking.com

You can get that marine anchor chain in 19mm widths. Good if you don't have to carry it!0
