Hi All

I am new to owning a Carbon Frame road bike and have heard a few contradicing reports on what roof rack is best to carry the bike.

I am looking at getting a Thule roof rack and there are two choices.

The first is the 'ProRide 591' and with that one, you keep your front wheel on the frame

The second is the 'OutRide 561' and is a carrier where you remove the front wheel and clamp the front forks.

What is the best type to get when one owns a carbon fibre frame? I am not wanting to damage or weaken the frame by using an insoorect carrier.

Any help would be appreciated

Regards to all

    Hi

Ive just bought one of each. Ive not used them yet but was planning to use the fork bolted one for my expensive bike and the down tube mounted one for my mountian bike.

I've used the frame clamping one a fair few times - so long as you dont go mad and crush the frame - then thats fine too.
  • Have a look at the Atera Giro AF system as I considered both and it works a treat on my Carbon Spesh Tarmacs - cannot overtighten quite simply and very rapid one hand locking system. Turned out to be £100 cheaper than Thule as well on an internet deal at the roofbox company. Very pleased although one tip is that i should have gone for Aero Roof Bars as you can space them even wider outside the roof rails if u want to carry 4 bikes - Good future proofing if you intend to carry multiple bikes and I did not realise.
