Guys, looking for a Turbo Trainer or something of that ilk, do you have any recommendations?

Thanks

There's an article here on Bike Radar - maybe in the Fitness section.

Short answer was buy a fluid one.

Thanks m8, but I would rather hear from people who have used them, rather than a writer who gets kick backs!

Tacx Satori is very good - quiet, solid, well made, and adjustable resistance. £150ish, I think.

Buy a coat instead, they are no fun at all.

They are the work of the devil.

What do you want them for ? Unless you're set on racing next year - its likely that it will go largely unused.

Dont get a fan one = waay too loud. Fluid or possibly magnetic is what you want, and they still make a noise. Best to have a dedicated bike for the turbo - with a turbo tyre on too. And get a big fan to cool you.

And get the Pete Read Blue Book - thats great for turbo sessions.

I do like mine a lot, but the max I could spend on it would be an hour, quite often i just do a 40 miinute session, very handy if you don;t have much time, or want to cram in a quick good quality training session.

You do REALLY need the big fan, I didn't realise quite hoe much until bought one, so budget for one of those, I bought a really nice floorstander from tooledup for £30, with a remote control and everything!

My TT is an Elite crono fluid thingy: ELITTRAI800000000000_1_large.jpghttp://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/productdetail.asp?productcatalogue=ELITTRAI800000000000

When I bought it in the spring it was reduced to £120, so it might well be cheaper elsewhere.

My recommendation for using one, or what works for me, is either to get hold of some spinervals/cts training DVD's, and or come up with a varied workout, ie different positions for certain lengths of time on the bars, different heart rate ranges, seated/standing etc etc

    Cheers

  • Thanks all for your comments, very useful and food for thought: The Coat will be in addition too; it’s a weight thing.
