I got a set of each to go on my new winter bike (couldn't make mind up so got both).

The main problem I have with them is that the instructions say to mount the front guard by using bolt 4 (not that there is a key to show which one of 5 diffo bolts number 4 is) to screw into the front brake bolt from behind the fork.

This would be all well and good if any of the bolts provided by them actually was big enough to make contact with the thread inside the brake bolt.

I tried mounting it from the front side of the forks by removing the brake and then using the bold to hold the brake and the guard to the frame, but this just ruins the fit of the guard.

Its the same with both sets of guards, and on three diffo bikes, none of the bolts will screw into the brake bolt thread.

Can anyone help?

YOu don't need an extra bolt to attach the front guards.

The bracket thing on the front guard should just slip over the threaded bit attached to the brake, and it goes in front of the fork.

I'll see if I can find a pic

Just put the bracket behind the brake but in front of the fork.

My advice is to get down to a hardware shop and get some longer bolts! The ones that came with my SKS guards were too short as well- only a tiny bit sticking out through the black plastic bit.

Just put the bracket behind the brake but in front of the fork.

They are the Blumels in carbon like I have I think.

DId you not find that by putting them infront of the fork, it altered how they sit and the front comes up a little so it isn't equidistant from the tyre all round?

They fit fine the way I have them - no rubbing or anything.

You might find you'll have to bend the bracket a bit to get to position properly though - I've had to do that everytime I've fitted guards on a bike though.

The instructions that come with the SKS guards are useless, i too had the same problem as you, i faffed about for 3 hrs fitting them, thinking the front guard bracket fitted behind the fork. I ended up taking my bike bike into the shop i bought them from and got them to show me how it was done. Once fitted thogh, i must say they are pretty good.

    Re: SKS Chromos.

No problems with the front mount to the brake bolt, but I did have an issue with the plastic end caps that fit over all 8 fittings of the mudguard. They were a nuisance to fit and after doing so, it turned out that the metal 'stays' were about an inch and a half too long and I had to remove all the plastic caps to get the stays far enough through the mudguard fitting to follow the radius of the wheel.

Also, the protrusion of the top 'stays' on the front mudguard was within quarter of an inch of the cables on the downtube, so needed more trimming (hacksaw, pliers and brute force).

Bit of a faff, but all in all a good fit once done, and shouldn't need any re-fiddling.
