Have just bought one myself and collect from my LBS tomorrow.
Can't wait TBH and got a really good deal too.
ALthough the week of moaning about may prove harder to deal with
My training bike is aluminium and it's so harsh on the roads round here that it's put me off them for life.
Hoping the carbon frame is as comfy as my old 853 frame that I used to ride.
I reckon the spec on the Scott is pretty good for what you pay.

Me thinks this guy works for Cannondale!!

I have the 2006 CR1 Pro. Lovely frame. Stiff and responsive. Dampens the road buzz a treat. Was told it might be too stiff for longer rides/sportives, but never had any discomfort.FCN 2-4.

Maybe so, but following the advice of 3 LBS I was advised not to go for the CAAD9 as the Roads of Ireland-N.Ireland r too harsh. They all said that on the CAAD9 they were not at ease and felt every lump and bump.
Here is a statement from one of my local councilers concerning the roads in my area.
THE Department for Regional Development should do more to maintain road surfaces, according to SDLP Upper Bann MLA Dolores Kelly. She made her comments after it was revealed that in the past three years over [pounds sterling] 330,000 was paid out by the department to 1,339 people for damage to vehicles and personal injury resulting from potholes in roads.
The largest amount of compensation paid last year for damage to a car caused by a pothole was [pounds sterling] 2,379.94, following an incident on the Lower Ballinderry Road near Lisburn.
I really don't see this harsh ride \ comfy ride - Ive got a low end Alu, high end alu , and carbon. I wouldn't necessarily say the carbon is the more comfy ride. What about position on the bike ? - how low the bars are, wheels tyres , saddle type .........and sometimes you just get used to riding it - to me feeling every bump - becomes less of an issue when you finally get the fit of bike 'bang on' - your pedaling action, then becomes smoother, power transfer greater, and you breeze over poor road surfaces.......
I mean, what did we do when there was only steel ?0 -
I owned a CAAD5 and now a CR1 and if the Cannondale was even vaguely like the later CAAD9 I have to say, dlbarren, your friend gave you the right advice. The CAAD5 was very harsh by comparison, my ar*e does not miss it..0

This advice from the LBSs, was it to buy a more expensive bike?
If you want a bike that is good over big potholes etc, I recommend a Commencal meta 5.5 vip0 -
After test ride i think it is a great frame.
The only thing that stopped me to buy Scott CR1 is that rear mech hanger can not be replaced.
As I already had a crash that resulted in bent hanger and replacing was cheap and quick (just to put new one) for me it is a significant factor.0 -
djbarren, I know what shop you are talking about as I too have dealt with Paul up at Slane Cycles. They have a great range of bikes although I have to say that it is targeted at the more accomplished rider and Paul certainly does a great sales pitch.
I disagree with the CADD9 comments though as I have a few friends who ride this bike and give it excellend reviews. Throughout the forums the CADD is also regarded as being a great bike for the money.
However, the Scott is also a great bike, albeit slightly dated now but when you're in this price range, and I woudl guess Paul got £1100+ out of you, then perhaps you could have done a bit better with a newer frame although I know how hard it is to get certain models here in N.I!!
Maybe see you at Lap the Lough?0 -
HANG ON A MINUTE
OP you have a lovely bike, chapeau to you and I hope you have a fantastic time riding it.
To the rest of you, can't you just let him enjoy the bike rather than arguing over the various merits of what he should have bought? :roll:0 -

No, I need to have my say, preferably saying it louder than everybody else ad nauseum until all are beaten into submission through attrition.0 -
Having owned a CAAD9 for 2 years it is an excellent frame but it is true it's harsh.
Have a look on weight weenies so many use CAAD9 for crit races because of the stiffness.
If you have rough roads I'd like a forgiving carbon bike personally.0 -

Hope you are as pleased with yours as I am with mine“Training is like fighting with a gorilla. You don’t stop when you’re tired. You stop when the gorilla is tired.”0 -

What were you riding up till now0 -
Just collected my new one from my LBS.
Rode back to the office on it. All of 5 minutes but it feels really comfy and really fast.
Can't wait for a proper ride.
Might need to take a longish detour on the road home tonightScott CR1 Team
