This is my possible commute to work:

If anyone knows this route is there a better/ safer route? Fernhill Heath to Stokes Heath is the busy section with crappy road surface in places (A38).
Thanks

I got arrested in Fernhill Heath for doing 130 mph in a 30 zone......I was 18 and it was my first "big" motorbike.....got away with it in court though due to a technicality....oh the late 80's in Worcester!
As for the route, I remember the A38 being a bit of a crap road for bicycles....I think they have made most of it a 50 zone to Bromsgrove, but it was so long ago that I lived near there.
Nice distance if you are doing Worces to Birmingham....Thats a fair old trek!0 -
Morning, I use the A38 - tho its between Berkeley and Water Wells. Not every day but when on lates/nights.0

I plan to use the train/ bike on some days or a mix of train to work/ bike home depending on how hard it is/ weather etc.
The last 9km is the hard bit (or should that be the "fun" bit?)- over the Lickey Hills. Some of the back roads are 17%!0 -

I was in Worcester in the late 80s. 1987-1989 or so, while I was at WCHE. I've some good memories of those days, mostly involving pubs (such as the scrumpy at the Crown and Anchor, outside the back gates of college IIRC), and Ian Botham walking into me in St. Johns.
And laughing at the kids who had to go to school on a Saturday morning.0 -

I don't think so. I was in Clee in my first year (Oct 1987-June 1988), then living in St Johns in my second year. You were in the year below, so we wouldn't have been in Clee at the same time. Dropped out of my B.Ed. at the beginning of the summer term in the second year, and moved away from Worcester then.
I was Security Officer for the SU in my second year, IIRC, when Helena Nolan (?) was SU president. Used to organise people for the door of the Dive, and was in there often; so no doubt our paths crossed. :Oo:0 -
I was not at the WCHE or the one on Deansway - Worcester Tech?!? I left Worces at 19 or 20 years old and went to Cambridge, then left and went to Rutgers....
My mum worked at WCHE though.....she was a PE teacher as such.0
