So, I bought a rockhopper comp 3 weeks ago and its a great bike dont get me wrong but everytime I see a full sus bike go past I want one!

I might be able to get evans to take the rockhopper back under their 28 day return policy and I was thinking of changing it for a specilaized FSRxc comp and paying some extra cash.

I look at the rockhopper and say - Naa, its great I dont need a FSRxc comp. I look at full sus bikes and say - I really want a FSRxc comp.

HELP!!!

 Bike envy is a dangerous thing!

I wanted my Anthem for ages and now I've got it I get envious of a guy I ride with who has the X1. But if I had that, I'd probably still be jealous of another mate's Ibis Mojo. It's never ending!

I'd say just enjoy your Hopper - It's going to be autumn soon and we'll all be back to riding in mud and grinding paste, all of which would be getting in and around your shock and all the bearings on a full susser, so a hardtail will be a lot less hassle.

And the bloke on the FS is thinking 'wish I'd kept me HT...'

    Ya gotta have both.

    Hmmmm...

Care to explain why I need both? You dont need to convince me its just I need to come up with a rather convincing story to explain the issue to my better half

FS bikes are awesome on technical terrain and for long days in the hills but you need a HT for the winter and for shorter blasts around your local loop. IMO. :)

Aim high, shoot low. Tell her you need a million-dollar FS bike, drag her round a couple of bike shops and then 'compromise' by going for the FSR

Alternatively, just go and buy one. It's better to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Bike envy is completely natural. I have an FSRxc but to be honest would have preferred a Pitch Pro but could not cover it with my C2W voucher.

Still loving what I've got though. 8)
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.

its not that stupid, have you tried the fsr though? you might end up finding the grass is always greener.

i know i would prefer the fsr in comparison to the hardtail though but unlike loads of folk who will tell you you dont need a fs, ive tried good versions of both.

I just spunked rather a lot on a zesty 514 - love it.

Yet I now keep looking at HTs. Is something wrong with me!!? :!:

even though i've got a full sus which is my pride and joy, if its crappy weather or i'm just going for a quick blast i nearly always grab the HT.

a guy at work has even offered me £150 for it but i won't sell it, it's handy to have a second bike sometimes :)

  • Why the hardtail for winter/bad weather?

you need to tell her about delcols lovely wife.

    road bike for commuting.
    full suss
and a hardtail, well 2 hardtails but gave wifey the rockymountain to keep her sweet.

oh and about to purchase a downhill rig to.
not to mention 2 hols this year and last year to whistler..

hardtails are easier to look after through winter easier to clean and maintain cause they have no rear susspension or pivot bearings to kill...

convince her to have both.
  • Just try to remember the reason you bought the Rockhopper in the first place. There nust have been some reason you decided to part with your hard earned?

SDK2007: Sorry dude, Evans will accept the rockhopper back for full price and they just happen to have the right size replacement sat on the showroom floor waiting for me upon walking in.

I just cant justify or afford to keep the hopper, so Ive done a deal...

    Photos to follow tomorrow.........

You're probably mostly plugging around in the mud, so there's less benefit to be had from full sus anyway and all the while all that water and grit is working its merry way into your shock bearings.
