i've been looking and can't find anywhere that'll do for much less than a grand for a full 7800 group set..
ideally i'd like a triple, but seem to be rare...

£900 here

but I'd definitely forego the triple and get 7900 compact for £1000

Do you really need a triple?
I agree with chriskempton that a compact is the way forward, unless you live at the top of Hardknott Pass!
You get a pretty good ratio with a compact.0 -
thanks dudes.. think i will go with the compacts....
am climbing all over alps later, so thought initially a triple , but thinking more a compact will do..
am thinking of going with the Campagnolo Centaur Groupset as it's a bit cheaper and i can spend more on wheels! .. performance will be similar i imagine..bikes:

I'd beg to differ - triple adds approx 100 grammes, and at the end of a long day in the Alps, you'll be very glad of the bail out option if it all goes wrong in the legs department. And without wishing to reopen the old shimano vs campag debate, I've used Centaur and run Dura Ace at present - they're like chalk and cheese, may be down to personal preference, but Centaur is clunky and heavy, both in real terms and in shifting terms compared to Dura Ace.0

centaur over dura-ace - hmm.
I'm a campag person but even so - i'd struggle with that - tough one.
actually - yes - I would go centaur - i'd rather have that on the bike.0
