Very new - need adive on buy a bike

Been thinking about getting into mountain biking for a while now, but recently decided to push things forward and go ahead with it. So I need to buy a bike. I have been thinking of a budget of £300 for a bike, but still don’t really know if that is to much or not enough to get something semi decent and which will last a while until i get really into the sport.
Reading some reviews, the Decathlon Rockrider 6.3 seems to be a good bike to go with, but I am completely open to suggestions as I am a complete novice to this.
