I just checked out the listings for the Eurosport coverage of the Vuelta http://tv.eurosport.co.uk/ and during the first weeks weekdays they are only showing the bl**dy thing during the day with no highlights show at night, as they did with the Giro and Tour.
Rubbish :x

Why not record the afternoon coverage and watch it in the evenings?

    Indeed a cunning plan ;)
Or just give up the day job.

With the added benefit that you can fast forward the first 3hrs of dullness, only for your V+ / Sky + / Videoplus to stop recording in the last 5K just as Voigt goes on a brave flyer

I've given up the day job but I still watch my cycling late at night; I'd rather go cycling during the day than watch it then!

Also, as mentioned above - it is good to fast-forward through the ads and other boring bits. My hard disk recorder lets me step through 30 secs, 1 min, 1 min 30 secs, 2 mins, 2 mins 30 secs, 3 mins, 5 mins or 10 mins at a time so it is very easy to get to where the action is (or past where it isn't!).

That would be impressive if Voight went off the front on a flyer he's still getting over his tour injuries! Most of the Vuelta is fairly boring anyway, long flat hot stages and slow sprint finishes. Anything after the tour is always an anti-climax anyway.

Re Sky+ and Eurosport, I've missed the end of many a race due to something beforehand overrunning and the recorder getting confused as to when the cycling starts and finishes.

Either record a few other shows after the cycling to account for this or, better still, select Manual Recording in the menu and you then choose when you want it to stop/start.

Eurosport sticking to their daily schedule timings is an extreme rarity.

Sadly I only watch Eurosport via the web player, this is however drawing me to signing up to Sky or Virgin, I've been thinking of doing it for a while now anyway.

Or do what I did and receive International Eurosport free using an ancient analogue satellite system. You can pick 'em up dirt cheap if you look around.

I think the 'set top' box receivers are hard to come by these days (but not the dishes of course)? I use analogue satellite too, I love it - just pray Eurosport keeps the analogue signal going (a lot of the German channels are turning it off).

Yep, this is key. I'm also a big fan of tennis, and I have had to employ this tactic many times before. Only problem is that if you end up with something you want to keep, and there was a lot of stuff before or after (because you ran it safe), there is no way of deleting it. Only way out is if you have a DVD recorder or PVR card to record it to your PC.
  • Eurosport are obviously assuming the viewers are canny enough to use the swine flu excuse to get off work without the need for a sick note.

Have you seen this year's course?

I was amazed at the weeked when the Vattenfall ran over and my sky+ box automatically extreded the recording, ok it ran over by about 20 mins and the recording went from 67 mins to 228 mins but at least I didn't miss the finish.

It would appear Eurosport have changed their scheduling and the Vuelta does now look to have an hour long evening/night show most days.
Happy days are here again :D

Basque TV might show it, although I'm not sure if this is the exact channel.

They showed the Tour of Basque Country and the coverage was good.

Anyone know where I can find schedules for International Eurosport? Maybe I'm being a bit thick, but can't track anything down.

I'm assuming the international version will have longer coverage than the UK one, but I'd like to find out for sure, and when.

LOL you ever tried to record a "live" event on Eurosport?

Lost count the number of times the last 10km of the race were cut off .

You have to set the box to record the following program as well just to make sure you get it all

International schedule (not German Eurosport btw): http://tv.eurosport.com/tvhome.shtml

Home page for International is here: http://eurosport.yahoo.com/

It tends to try and redirect you to the UK version if your computer is in the UK. International has been pretty damn good for cycling over the last couple of years I would say.

And in a truly remarkable turn of events, when I set my recorder for Saturday night's highlights show it offered me the option to series link it!

It did the same for the Tour of Ireland highlights as well.

Yes - all the cycling coverage that they broadcast! I'm a pretty quick learner so having lost the last 10 km once or twice, my standard technique now is to start recording an hour early, and let it overrun by 2 hours - no race is ever that late finishing!

I very rarely watch live TV since I got my hard disk TV recorder. I like to be able to pause programmes, cut out the boring bits and skip any ad breaks.

But that was on ITV4. This is a bold step into the unknown for Eurosport as far as I'm aware...

You might have had a response from a pro cyclist on Twitter, you may even have chatted to a 'journo', but ultimately, you still know nothing. You're not an insider, no matter how much you wish you are.

    A regular analogue Eurosport International viewer, I haven't been able to get to the Eurosport Int TV pages without ending up at the British TV schedule since it was introduced. Thanks for the links. I had found a link on a Greek satellite TV provider;
    http://www.nova.gr/eng/tvguide.asp?acti ... hannel=542

You just need to remember to adjust your time by 2 hours to convert to BST (rather than 1 hour from CET to BST) and then as mentioned add more recording time before and after for early start of transmission and late finishes. I still use a VCR and since there was never any Videoplus, just set it manually. The English TV listings have also disappeared from the International teletext so you need to know your radsport and rundfahrt (what great words!) for the German listing (which always changes anyway). Can't fault the coverage though.

The only problem I have is that the picture quality deteriorates when it rains with a lot of "snow". As I inherited the dish when I moved house some 10 years ago (when analogue was already on the way out) and have been given two boxes over the years, I never had a new set up of this type and I don't know if this is normal or a conseqence of old weather beaten equipment and/or cables.

Hope it is a good, clean race. However you watch it, enjoy! :D

They have just announced that British Eurosport viewers will get significantly longer live coverage sessions than Eurosport International. Does anyone know how much the difference will be?
  • Who knows?
NOS (the Dutch coverage providers) are showing all of tomorrows stage and are live from 2-30pm BST on Monday.

According to Harmon, Brit ES are showing ALL of tomorrow's stage live...then he reverted to 3pm....finally back to the whole of tomorrow's stage. Totally confusing.
We shall see, but I suspect, as we haven't got the live girlie footie, coverage will start around 12-15pm, tomorrow.
International and other ES versions have no live coverage, but an hour, at 6-25pm BST.
