My new Specialized Sirrus (in rare "camp blue") arrived yesterday. Apart from a brief flirtation with a Marin Redwood a few years back, not been out on a proper bike for, ooh, about 20 years until tonight. Saw off 4.5 miles with lots of stopping to adjust the saddle higher and higher until I was happy and overall enjoyed it.

But...

I had forgotten, or deliberately ignored, how ridiculously hilly where I live in Sevenoaks is. There's no rides - none at all - that don't involve pretty significant 300ft ascents within half a mile of setting out. I guess, in a way, it might help that I'm having to tackle the whole hill situation head on, but it sure doesn't feel like it.

I know how you feel about the hills. It's nothing but hills around here as well and with the state of my fitness they all seem like mountains :(

"What happens when the hammer goes down, kids?"
    "It stays down, Daddy."
    "Exactly."
