Hi All
Newby on here but hoping to hang around for a while.
I've been mountain biking for a few months now and have got the bug!
Found some short local routes and have spent some time at Thetford Forest and have been over to Coed y Brenin & Nant yr Arian a couple of times thanks to my parents living in the area so free accommodation
Anyway, we are thinking of heading over to the Peak District this weekend. Are there any trail centres there or, if not, where's the best place to base ourselves for a weekend of riding.
Any advice would be great thanks

This is a good place to start

There are no trail centres in the peak district so you will need to navigate.
Hope is the nearest civilisation0 -
Thanks Abductee that's really useful. I see Sherwood Pines is on there too - we plan to go there soon as well as it's only an hour from us.
We are planning on camping this weekend in the Peaks so I'll have a look for some camp sites around Hope unless anyone knows any bike friendly ones??
Cheers

You'll find riding in the Peak a lot tougher than your average trail centre, and you'll need a map and be able to use it.If you stay in Hope 18bikes will be able to advise on routes. The main campsite in Hope is Laneside and is next to the main road.A quieter option is Fieldshead in Edale village but Edale is much smaller than Hope(2 pubs).Head over Ladybower way for some top class natural riding.

Hi ibbo68
Many thanks for the info, really useful
We're used to map reading so I think we're going to give it a go - we're up for the challenge! Will let you know how we get on when back on Tuesday all being well.
Cheers,

yeh hope is the main base but edales good too, though very small with less luxuries, just a pub really, ( the ramblers)
campsites are as said laneside , but it can be rather pricey , i just tsayed there and i think its walkers £4.50 , car=xtra, if ur tents big= xtra , i ended up payin £16.50 per night for me mate and I, 1 car and 2 smll tents, but facilities are cool, showers toilets all free modern and clean. the worst thing bout laneside is , its on a main road and the biggest bug is , ( and it may seem small but so annoying) they leave the site floodlit at night, and it shines right through ya tent, but all said n done its convienent.
OR
Pindale farm campsite just up the road, (turn opposite the spar) just as good facilities , though not as big. £4.50 pn all in , no xtra this n that. well it was last year maybe a 5er now. and the best thing is , its like camping, no lights at night , its dead quiet and its higher up the valley side more wind elements just doesn't seem so commercialised.
Riding , wow theres lots but it can be hard going, just follow one of the many bridleways on the map, but places to look for are , mam tor - hollins cross - ladybower res' - win hill(some not bridle way but great view)- jaggers clough- rush up edge- the roman road and the beast downhill near hags bridge . try get some 'wild boar' maps as well as ur os ones , i find em fab. ( im not advertising but whats good is good)
what ever you do enjoy but make sure ur bikes in fine fettle as i always seem to break something while im there.
have funRocky-M-Slayer.0 -

2 pubs & a Cafe in Edale... the cafe used to belong to a grumpy old git who didn't care for MTB's  I once got told off for resting my bike along an outside table, it was years ago mind you. Some good riding in the area, for sure.. Once stayed at the campsite nr. the railway line, owners were fine with bikers, its all rather past tense as i have done no 'proper riding' since the late 90's :roll:BAZZ0

also Coopers Field Campsite opposite the Nags Head where you have to pay a five pound deposit for good behaviour!!!!!!I wear Lycra because I like the way it feels0
