Hi folks this is my first post on here
I am a bit green when it comes to cycling and dont know much about bikes so that's why I am asking all you experts
I have been riding my trusty old mountain bike for a while now and my mate has just bought him self a nice claud butler road bike.
I have had a lend of his bike while he is away and I am really enjoying it.
The problem is that I cant get it to drop onto the lower front cog when I come to a bit of a climb I am not up on the name of the type of gearing but you push the break leaver to change gear
It is a new bike so do you think it could be something simple or should I take it to the bike shop

Any help would be great but in simple terms as I dont know the names of components

Thanks

Cathal

If his bike is new, it is probably the cables stretching, presuming it changed OK before. Video here Ignore the first two bits of the vid, as the clamps and the limit screws should be fine adjust the cable and ignore the stuff re the middle ring.

It could just be that you are leaving changing down a bit too long and the chain is under too much tension. Try changing down on the flat going easy if it still wont change then adjust the cable.

Maybe I misread but I thought it was the fron lower cog he could not get to when coming to a hill? If thats the case cable strect is not the problem as that would stop him changing up to large ring.
If he is trying to change to small front ring before a lcimb and it will not go down it is probably the lower limit screw stopping it and is easy to adjust.
