Mavic Aksiums instead of Alex ACE-19's

Folks,

I have a pair of Mavic Aksiums which I was thinking of using in place of a pair of Alex ACE-19's on a Specialized Tricross. Some questions if anyone knows these tyres and bike:

1. Will the cassette on the Alex ACE-19 fit on the Mavic Aksiums ? The casette is a Shimano HG50, 9-speed, 11-32. The Aksiums currently have a 10-speed 11-27 SRAM.

2. The Mavic Aksiums have 700x23 road tyres on them right now, which is what I currently want to use on the Tricross but I might want to occasionally slap on a harder wearing, more off-roady set. What is the most off-roady set of tyres one can put on a Mavic Aksium ?

Thanks

You can use a 9-speed cassette on Aksiums, but you'll need a spacer. Mine came with the spacer.
    More problems but still living....

Thanks. I was hoping to take the cassette off the Alex Ace tyres that came with the bike and put them on the Aksiums. Would you know if I shoudl expect that cassette to come with the spacer you mention or was that something to be bought separately ?
    Thanks

IIRC the spacer will have came with the aksiums as this is a mavic spacer to allow you to fit shimano casettes on the mavic (M10) freehub.

it might have been used on the current sram cassette in which case you are in luck - else you will need to find a new one.

Cool, many thanks folks. Tyres are at home, will take a look when I get home.

Just so I am right with my preconceptions and prejudices, I should keep the Aksiums and axe the Alex Ace's right ?
