FOX 32 Stanction Wear

My 2008 fox 32 talas forks are in for service and there is wear on one of the stanctions so the company servicing can not guarantee that new seals will seal properly. However the cost of replacement stanctions is quite high and I was wondering does anyone have any experience of this as I would like to try and run the fork for another 12 months (done 600 miles on them) before replacing these although I will be gutted if they come back and still leak! Any advice?

it can be a problem with some fox forks.
some are fine and some not.
you will have to see`how they go."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Depends how big the leak is a little bit of oil goes a very long way. If its just a bigger than normal tide mark on the stanchions I wouldnt bother just make they are serviced regulary to top up the oil I ran a set of Manitous for years that weeped oil its only when they leak so much that oil runs down the leg that you need to worry.
ps off topic but its probably not a good idea to have your email address as your forum name a little bit of editing your profile might be a good idea unless you like spam that isFig rolls: proof that god loves cyclists and that she wants us to do another lap0 -

Thanks for the help.
Yes it is the left leg funnily enough....??0 -
My mate has had the same issues with some Van 32 RLCs, Mojo blame it on the fact that the brakes are on the left leg!!!
He had new bushes fitted and then added more than the recommended oil to aid lubrication. (Not sure if you can do that with Floats though) and they seem to be holding up well now.
I have 2 pairs of Fox forx and always store my bikes upside down so that the top bush gets plenty of oil. I also lube the foam rings under the seal regularly. I've had no issues with stanchion wear.0 -
Interesting thanks very much... Do you lube the foam rings with the normal fork oil? I never did this at all maybe that was partly the problem!0
-
Lube them with float fluid, not fork oil, I probably do it once a month0
-
ive never got why you have to lube the foam rings with float fluid and not shock oil, surely they will just mix together when the shock oil is pushed through the bushes.0
-
Er, no, that's the point, you use different stuff so it doesn't mix!0

yeah but doesn't the shock oil get drawn up the lowers past the bushes and come into contact with the foam rings which in turn keeps the stanchions lubed up, which in turn mixes the float fluid with the shock oil.0

Dunno,
I've not had any problems though.
I think, the fork oil is thinner, so the weight of the float fluid keeps it below the foam rings. The float fluid is very thick, so I assume that can't flow through the bushes.0 -

if it is doing that the your seals need replacing.
the foam rings as situated between the seals and the dust wipers (the visible "seals")."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Like I say, I've never got that involved, I've had 4 sets of Fox Forx and have always lubed the foam rings with Float Fluid regularly, never had any of the forks serviced, always store them upside down and I've never had any problems.
get a bottle rather than sachets and it will last literally years. I've had mine 4 years and it's still half full

ahh i see, makes sense now, theres nothing wrong with mine i just assumed they would mix with the shock oil getting splashed about.0 -
I have got the same problems on my Floats and as i cant afford new stanchions i changed the dust seals and oil in january, dead easy if you follow this link- http://service.foxracingshox.com/consum ... OAT_RL.htm the stanchion's are really badly worn , but the forks did not start leaking again till august so i got a good 6 months and it only cost £30 to do £15 for a set of seals and £15 for the fork oil. The bottle of fork oil is big enough to do 3 changes i would say so your next 2 times will only cost £15Bianchi Via Nirone 7 Alu/Carbon, 2011
