Noisy 11 speed Camapg Chorus Drivetrain

Any advice please. I fitted an 11 speed Chorus groupset to my newly purchased Colnago C50 frame earlier this year and I have a couple of problems. I've set high and low limiters correctly and adjusted cable cable tension so that indexing is good (most of the the time), but although changing up the cassette to the lower gears is snappy, changing down to the smaller sprockets is occasionally sluggish ( even when there is virtually no tension in the gear cable!). I've check that there is nothing snagging on the cable and that its fitted correctly and can't find a problem, although due to its design it almost looks that in some positions the inner cable is almost rubbing on the rear mech where it comes out from the barrel adjuster. The correct 11 speed cable is being used.

The other thing that's annoying is that it seems a lot more noisy that either the Shimano ultegra and SRAM Force I have on my other two bikes ( still prefer the SRAM , that is quiet as a mouse with exquisite shifting). The noise is not due to rubbing on the FD, and its not the same noise you get if indexing isn't perfectly set. The noise is quietest on the middle sprockets but is still there. I can best describe it as a chain/meshy noise

Is this a campy thing? Could the hanger be out of alignment even though its never been bashed and came straight to me from Windwave , the UK Colango distributors.

I see when looking at the rear mech, that the chain is almost touching the outside cage on the upper roller- is this normal?

Any advice....this is driving me nuts.

  • I hear your pain!

The 11-speed rear mech is quite sensitive to friction between the cables and outers. I had the same problem when initially installed but it's all settled down nicely. Ensuring bends in the RD cable outer (especially on the bars) are as shallow as possible certainly helps.

On the noise, in the workstand I'd agree it sounds noisy. Keeping everything clean and some Pro-Gold lube definitely quietens it down however.

SRAM is quieter although the Red cassette is way noisier than the 11-speed if it's any consolation!!

Persevere with the 11-speed adjustments and you will get there! Good luck! :-)

I have 11 speed super record. I understand about the problem. I sorted it using the Finishline Pro road ceramic lube......very good. I also understand pro gold is good, but not used it!
