Watched The Who at Woodstock at the weekend!
  • I've just ordered the Sly & the Family Stone double CD of their Woodstock set.

Hopefully better than the Santana one (Soul Sacrifice really was their highlight that day, the rest chugs along OK but...).

were sha na na a bit of a comedy turn ? sort of an american showaddywaddy
i think one of them popped his clogs recently, though i don't think he played at woodstock
  • One of the members of Sha-na-na posted a message on the woodstock69.com website (that site has a lot of reminiscences/messages from people who were there/in the film/in the photos on the album covers).

Apparently they were a kind of novelty covers band, a rock & roll revival act touring the college circuit. They had formed in 1969 and this guy was hired to play keyboards during a summer break from college and afterwards quit the band to go back and graduate. Apparently they were meant to be on the during the Sunday afternoon, but they kept getting bummped back down the order due to sets over-running and higher status bands wanting to keep to their schedule, so spent most of the night sitting in a cold unheated van waiting to play. Eventually did the set Monday morning just prior to Hendrix.

Woodstock sealed their fame and they have continued ever since, with about 40 + members over the years.
