Ever applied for a job, been passed over but told "your CV would be kept on file"?
Now a world first: a job I applied for 2 months ago and got knocked back on a month ago, they've come back to me, asked if I'm still available and saying they'd need a quick start.
Never heard the like....
Anyone else ever had this happen?

Yes.
My current employer turned me down, called me back 6 months later when I was about to start with another firm (I turned them down) and then again about a year after that, when I eventually made the jump.
A colleague got turned down in order for them to take me, then they called him back 6 monthhs later......
A small company thing perhaps? HR departments are present to ensure that tallented people's CV's get shredded, right?0 -
Been kept on a waiting list.
That's good news, Charles.FCN 2-4.

Happened to me as well.
I went for a contract job at a company but didn't get it as they were looking for someone more experienced who could jump in at the deep end. However a couple of months later when they were looking to fill a permanent role they contacted me about that.
Unfortunately I didn't take it as the place was on the other side of Glasgow and I was looking at a commute of ~40 miles along the M8.0 -
Same thing happened to me, the job I'm in now, I applied for a more junior role, got turned down, three days later was asked if I'd be interested in a more senior role and got it.

I think my Father-in-law has one of the best tales along these lines.
He went for a interview for a Surveying role only to find out the company wanted a Quantity Surveyor, not a Land Surveyor (which he was). The interview ended quickly, but politely, once he pointed that out.
A few months later the company phoned him up as they needed a Land Surveyor now... for a job in Jamaica. The result was my (now) in-laws lived there for 7 years and my wife was born there (Saint Andrew Parish, nr Kingston).itsnotarace.org - SCR Rules & FCN Calculator0 -

happened with me with the prison service. I was initally turned down for a job as an admin assistant working in the prison records office. two months later I was called and asked if I would be interested in accepting a role as an admin officer (high grade better paid) for the Home Detention Cerfew section of the custody office. Spent four years at the Prison before making my escape having also been prisoner employment clerk and an intelligence collator (i.e listening to prisoner phone calls and reading their mail)
The commander recieved six job offers just before he hit 40 (standard age for retirement from the Royal Navy) all of which offered him work in senior roles as a marine or mechanical engineer in civvy street. He didn't apply for any of them, word of mouth just got around that he might be on his way out of the forces. He turned them all down and signed a 10 year contract extension with the RN, with a 5 year optional on top of that taking him to 55 and never having to work again if he dosen't want to. Methinks he made the right move.
Whats more he dosen't have to go back to sea if it isn't required. Kind of good seeing as he loses five days of any deployment to sea sickness!Officers don't run, it's undignified and panics the men0 -

Believe me sea sickness isn't unusal amoung sailors. But never fear the Commander is a marine engineer by trade, so he isn't the one throwing torpedoes and bombs at the enemy. he gets the minions to do thatOfficers don't run, it's undignified and panics the men0 -

I have to admit I have a great time taking the mickey out of him for his sea sickness. it's kind of funny seeing him going green when we go out on the boat off Dartmouth.Officers don't run, it's undignified and panics the men0 -
