Watching the programme last night I couldn't help but conclude the guy's still in denial over the offensiveness of his comments (and was there ever a better advert of the dangers of cosmetic surgery!!)

thing is the words he used were common parlance to people of his class, upbringing and generation- i dont for one minute think hes the card carrying BNP type- indeed he did more than most to introduce black players into the game- his words showed foolishness and ignorance rather than malice

    should he still be pilloried?

I question the point in Ron agreeing to appear in the programme. If it was an attempt to integrate back into "media society" in the hope of securing another pundit job I think he's shot himself in the foot.It clearly wasn't intended to put his side of the story or make further apology ,so other than just showing off his flash house and trophy wife(Brrrrr... ) you have to wonder how his agent had sold it to him.

    +1

I feel sorry for the guy. His language was completely unacceptable, but he's not some hate crime committing skinhead nutter. However, seeing pictures of his house, perhaps it's best to just keep quiet, and hope people forgive/forget.

If you work in a factory or a building site you will find Ron's language was typical of 90% of the white workers there.

I lived and worked in London's east end and Essex till 2001, and that sort of language was everyday fare. As was homophobia and sexism.
